i love redhat 8

I do agree, RedHat has done the job very well this time. Their UI attached me as well. You still can have it in any of Linux distros and *BSD, thought. Basically, you can install the Bluecurve theme in Gnome 1.4/2. Also, install Xft2/Fontconfig or install the very lastest XFree86 CVS version or wait for XFree86 4.3 to be release.

Right now, I am using Gnome 2.1.5 CVS version in FreeBSD 5.0-rc2 with Bluecurve and LighthouseBlue themes. I like LighthouseBlue theme better, which it's based on Bluecurve. LighthouseBlue -> http://lighthouseblue.sourceforge.net

mezz do you have any screens of Mozilla viewing a few web sites? Id like to see how your fonts render on there as the main reason im not in RedHat 8.0 right now is that the fonts for web sites still look messed up to me and your fonts look all round better for some reason.

Also, do you know how to mount an ntfs partition in RedHat 8.0? They seem to have removed the NTFS support :s

I don't have Mozilla install in FreeBSD, but Phoenix. Do you still want to see the screenshot of it? I have RedHat 8 installed on my brother's laptop (as main desktop for him) and family computer (dual boot). My family is using those machines right now, so I can check on Mozilla in RedHat 8 later this evening or tonight. Have you put Windows's fonts in RedHat 8, yet? All you have to do are put those fonts in the ~/.fonts.

BTW: This has been posted in here once a while, so try use the search funtion first.

I suggest you to read few of topics bottom. This one has been posted as a new topic in the near every two/three days. Use the search function in here will help you find them better.

PHOEBE is 6 CDs of software (3 binary, 3 source), including, among

other things:

- the latest in bleeding-edge desktop and XFree86 technology

- Mozilla 1.2.1, with Xft antialiased fonts

- glibc-2.3.1, with the new Native POSIX Thread Library (NPTL),

  for performant and scalable threading

So, my first quess would be that RedHat doesn't compile Mozilla with Xft by default in RedHat 8? You can grab Mozilla source code, compile and install by yourself. I think, Mozilla should be has the Xft enable by default. Or, if you prefer rpm then you can search for one that has the Xft enable.

I tried RH 8 w/ Bluecurve to see what the fuss is about. Redhat has done an incredible job and put a lot of work into it but I don't like it. I've never liked KDE or Gnome. I'm tweaking an E16 theme w/ for me is much more practical. As far as standardizing the desktop though they are doing a great job and it will make it *much* easier for many to learn using Linux on the desktop.

RH 8 is bundled with mozilla 1.0.1, it dosesn't support xft

xft support was introduced in 1.2b

Compile 1.2 with --enable-xft option or get a xft enabled binary from their ftp

Thanks, Prasanth.. I guess, I don't have to check on the different computers that have the RedHat 8 installed. I didn't know that RedHat 8 has Mozilla 1.01 (I thought, it was like 1.1 or 1.2) by default, so Prasanth already answered perfect to your question/problem. ;)

sorry if this is going off topic, but does anyone know if Redhat 8.1 (Phoebe) will come with all the mpg123 stuff installed etc so you can play music etc like Redhat 8.0 doesnt let you? (hm, hope that made sense :blink:) thanks :)

Hi, Mezz Could you help a newbie as me to install that wonderful theme on redhat8?

I'm really newbie on Linux (one week) so I have problem ton install it.

So I went to http://lighthouseblue.sourceforge.net patch GTK+ with the redhat8 rpm., then I went to soucerforge and DL the theme.

I uncompress the gz, did ./configure and I finally got an error "GTK-+2.0 not found" ...

Could you please give me a link for DL and a howto to have that theme?

You need to install the Gnome developer in the package option, which it's already on CD. It's best to re-check the auto update to see if there's any of packages that you need to update too. After that, go ahead compile/install LighthouseBlue theme.

No, but based on bluecurve. He improved/modified the Bluecurve and named it to LighthouseBlue. It's not same, but better in my opinion. So I had to do a mkdir to /usr/share/themes/LightHouseBlue, then log as root and do the following

- go to uncompress folder

- # ./configure --prefix=/usr

- # make

- # make install

- apply the theme.

There is something who bother me its that jaggy font in Mozilla ...I installed Mozilla 1.2.1 with xft enable but the font still ugly !

I have smooth font for desktop icons but the text in gaim is jaggy (your is neat) !

How do you have all your windows with smooth font? where can I DL or how to enable it?
