metallithrax
California cops have taken to crushing the impounded cars of street racers. Video I'm sure this brings tears to the eyes of some of you. Me, I agree with what they are doing (the cops that is). Dujun
   :/  That about describes my feelings, except I couldn't find a smiley that shot a cop :( Oh, and if I had the risk of my car being chrushed, I would do even more to get away from the cops. metallithrax
I can't believe (well, no I can :) ) that people are against this type of action. These people are engaging in ILLEGAL street racing putting not only themselves but innocent members of the public in danger. Having their car crushed is the least they should expect. Bawx
That is wrong on so many levels. :( Yeah yeah, I know, it's dangerous.

PixilEyes
The cops are being stupid. Why crush them? That civic is worth 5k+ easy.

It's just completely retarded and selfish. If you want to race, fine, but do it on a track where you can only hurt yourself and not innocent bystanders. The cops are being stupid. Why crush them? Why not? I'd say that's a pretty big deterrent. If I put so much cash into my car I would hate the thought of it being destroyed.

neufuse Veteran Posted June 20, 2007 Veteran Share Posted June 20, 2007 Why? Some people likes football and some people likes racing. What's the difference? uh? because this is ILLEGAL and unsafe street racing! someone could get killed on accident (bystandard) ! unlike legal track racing... where you know the risks
Nose Nuggets
there is a line that needs to be drawn. im surprised it legal to crush a car that the owner can pay to get out of the impound and is street legal. if they cant afford to pay the bills to get it out, thats one thing. the illegal mods/street legal thing is also not black and white. there are laws in place that give hefty fines and posible jail time to those who race illegally on the streets. i don't think that doing that crime warrants your car being smashed. just like i don't think public intoxication warrants a cop coming into your house and smashing all your wine glasses. get some frame of reference here people. just because YOU dont street race and YOU dont condone street racing does not mean that some simmaler BS could, one day, be imposed on you. the street racing aspect is, IMHO irrelevant. they are destroying personal property to try to persuade other racers not to do it. i think its the complete wrong approach. just wait untill some retired 60 year old man gets his E55 AMG crushed because he drag raced someone at a traffic light. then someone with money will do the what im sad to say, is necessary, and fight this in a district court. Personally I would choose the leagal alternative any day  I understand why people thinks it's wrong, but I can't just go to a race track and drive... tazzeh
I'm sure some of us UK people have seen this advert on tv of what happens when you don't pay your car tax. They will have the power to tow your car and crush it! Harsh treatment but effective!

Berserk87
it would make more sense to give them a huge fine to get there car back, and if they cant afford it, the car goes on auction. that way the city gets extra $$$ and less street racers without wasting time and money. And he would completely deserve it. I feel no sympathy for these people getting their cars crushed. If they want to put their own lives on the line, that's fine, but if they're going to do it out on the road where innocent lives could be taken, then I have no qualms with destroying the vehicle they use to do that. Dujun
But, at least in the US, there are tracks where it is legal to do this. Maybe you have that, but here in Denmark we don't. They racers may know the risks, but what about the INNOCENT passer by who gets hit by the ILLEGAL street racer and dies? What then?
SoCalledChaos
the people who say what the cops are doing is wrong... well maybe you can go and do some illegal street racing, and then crash and die, and see what you say then.. the cops are doing this to save lives... and the only ones who are crying on here are probably ricers who pretend they have supped up cars
