VIA Technologies to Launch KT400A by March?

Posted 1/09/03 at 12:52 pm by Anton

Foreign sources indicated that VIA Technologies will start to produce its final and probably the last Socket A core-logic in February or March. The company fully understands that VIA KT400A launch will definitely affect sales of the current KT400-based maiboards, hence, despite of stronger competition from NVIDIA?s nForce2 and recently launched SiS746FX, VIA will not force the KT400A roll out.

According to what we have heard from our sources, VIA KT400 will incorporate more efficient memory controller in the KT400A, though, do not expect from it something more than faster work with DDR400/PC3200 memory. Of course, there can be several other performance optimisations, as well as BIOS? tuning by mainboard makers, but I think we should better test the final hardware before drawing any conclusions in regards the actual performance.

First samples of the final KT400A revision should see the light of the day sometimes in the end of January, while the mass production will start later, as declared above. Considering the fact that JEDEC has approved PC3200 standard and VIA is dominating on the Socket A market, nothing can stop VIA KT400A chipset from becoming popular both among mainboard makers and end-users.
