rucky_a
Hi guys I am new to windows networking, and i am currently in the prcoess of learning.... Scenario: I have two DC's (different subnet) first domain: contoso.com (computer2) second domain: exchange.com (computer5) This one is insatlled on computer2.contoso.com on the Virtual server Problem: Now i want to share recourses on the these two different subnets. Could you guide me through the steps.... ?? would i need a physical router or is there any other way so that i can access shared folder from one domain to another?? I did some research and found out i would need to establish trusts between forests and change some DNS settings, would i need to change any DHCP settings as well. Could you please guide me further. Thanks in advance guys. rucky also i have got exchange server running on computer5, what would i need to do if i want to users in contoso.com to access this mail server? SAMeAiM
If i understand you correctly, what you want to do is create a trust between the two domains? Trusts; http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_...nvironment.html http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_...en-Forests.html http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserve...3.mspx?mfr=true http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Directory http://expertanswercenter.techtarget.com/e...1104911,00.html Well, first of all you would have to "join" the two networks - This is done by being able to route traffic between the networks, typical done by a router or by a layer3/4 switch (Normal switching is layer2). Lets say; Network A - 192.168.1.0 Network B - 192.168.2.0 Each network, would have to know how to reach the other network. This could be done by, setting up a router with two interfaces. One interface connected to the 192.168.1.0. One interface connected to the 192.168.2.0. Now, the routers interfaces would have some ip addresses, those could be - 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1. So to route traffic from 192.168.1.0 to 192.168.2.0 - The traffic would go to 192.168.1.1, which would forward the traffic to 192.168.2.1 So to route traffic from 192.168.2.0 to 192.168.1.0 - The traffic would go to 192.168.2.1, which would forward the traffic to 192.168.1.1 This is also called static routing. rucky_a
Dear SameAim, sorry for the late reply..was on holiday Thanks a lot for the reply, this is exactly what i am tryind to do. establish trust relationships. (would that let me access shared folder on differnt subnets?? ) but the catch is i am trying this with virtual machine, so i dont have any physical router, now if i install another VM on virtual server (2003 server), and use that as a router and configure static routes on that, would that work.?? if yes please guide me further, Also i am creating a scenario for myself so that i can pratice as if i was in a real work environment and which i will write in the next post, as i am still gathering my requirments on a piece of paper Thanks once again ... SAMeAiM
Based on the information in the PM, I would set up a physically network like this, After that, i would deploy the services like exchange, mom and sql.
