linux problem

Recommended Posts

everytime i start X window, an error appears that says :

"could not look up internet address for dhcp-2150-123. This will prevent GNOME from operating correctly. It may be possible to correct the problem by adding dhcp-2150-123 to the file /etc/hosts. "

can anyone tell me what should i do? does this have anything to do with the fact that i'm connecting ot the internet through cable modem via dhcp?

what this means is that your cable company is giving your computer the host name of dhcp-2150-123 and if you add it to your /etc/hosts you will not see this message. Most of the time this will not hurt anything but if you are going to add this to your host file if you will keep the name a while. the other way is to get a static ip and then you can just add the name you want and it will stay that way
