New TV but tinny sound issues

Just got a new LCD TV which is a LG 22LS4D and everything is fine apart from the sound which sounds really really tinny and rubbish, the menu system doesnt really help out much

anyone got any ideas?

The problem is the TV speakers. You're using them.

Seriously. Don't do that. No built-in speakers have been able to compete from the moment people started using receivers.

You'd probably be better off with a good set of Logitech surrounds or something, if you have the proper outputs.

I hate these companies that put out these 16:10 TV panels.

Anyways, what you could do is pretty simple. If the TV has audio out, get a cheap pair of decent PC speakers and get an RCA to mini jack converter cable and voila. It's not the most elegant solution, but it's affordable.
