Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi series Driver 2.18.0008

Filesize : 66.17 MB Download

Release date : 17 Dec 08

Sweet, thanks. Any info on a changelog?

Update: Computer hanged on shutting down while restarting. Hard rebooted now it seems like everything is working except CMSS (changes audio to go through all speakers when it'd otherwise only go through the front channels) which is bad because that's the only reason you'd have it. -_-

Update2:

For systems using Windows Vista

  • Dolby? Digital and DTS? decode re-established for sound cards that included decoding in their Windows XP drivers (Not applicable for products that included a 3rd party software DVD player license in the package).
  • DVD-Audio playback re-established for sound cards that included the application in their Windows XP software suite (For Windows Vista 32-bit only).
Requires the latest Creative MediaSource DVD-Audio Player software. Click here to download.

Fixes:

  • Resolves issue of audio popping when playing AC-3 Wave files or using Dolby Digital Live via the digital output on Windows Vista.
  • Resolves Audio Control Panel issue of incorrect X-Fi CMSS?-3D behavior while using Audio Creation Mode.

So it seems they changes something in the control panel and broke it in the process ehh.....

Well it trashed my system; WMP won't even play MP3s anymore since it says it's missing the codec. Going to be fun trying to fix this mess up, sigh.

just tried my mp3s and they are all good

why didnt you just edit your posts, unless you are trying to bump up your post count!!

as topic are months old, the edit button is not available.

If he edited it it wouldn't have bumped the topic I presume meaning noone would have seen the news of the new driver release.

yes, that's a good point also... this thread is updated as a service to others.

Sweet, thanks. Any info on a changelog? Update: Computer hanged on shutting down while restarting......

changelog is available at support.creative.com

Did you run the uninstaller (and reboot) before updating?

The installer/uninstaller path is either:

C:\AUDIO\Drivers\XFHX\setup.exe (for Windows XP)

C:\AUDIO\Drivers\SBXF\setup.exe (for Windows Vista)

Got things working again. Ran the uninstallers, deleted the driver through device manager, downloaded Guru3D DriverSweeper and ran that in safe mode. Rebooted back into Windows and installed the previous release and working good again.
