He asked for IT support, not Psycological guidance. IE has a blocker that you can configure depending on the content of the websites. with Firefox, you can use the Adblock addon to block images from any webpage

Statikk
The best solution I found without using an actual filtering appliance on the network is K9 Web Filter by Bluecoat Software. It's 100% free, does an awesome job and is completely auto updated. http://www1.k9webprotection.com/
3rdDin8
Use OpenDNS, set up a free account, add your IP address to it and you'll be able to block sites based on any category. But, that means no more porn for you as well ;)
craybox
use OPENDNS like said above its the best solution, just make sure that you change the default logo to that of your ISP that way anyone who tries to access forbidden content will see a screen with the ISP logo and believe it is the ISP that has blocked them and not suspect anyone in the house. tom01
Keep your business to yourself. Your parents are adults, not kids. Going to course more trouble than solutions.
Statikk
The only problem I see with OpenDNS in a case like this would be if his dad is smart enough to research his problem, finds open dns, and simply changes his DNS server.
Japlabot
I'm sorry, but blocking your fathers porno access is not going to fix anything. This is because the porn isn't the problem, but rather the trust relationship between your mother and father that is the problem. You are far better off to keep out of it and encourage them to work it out themselves. If you get in between them, then their disagreements could be taken out on you. Only do this if your father has asked you or has agreed to do this. Don't ask him if you can do this yourself - again, you will be getting yourself into this - they must be the ones to approach you. Also, if your mother asks you to do this behind your fathers back, don't do it either, your mother may drag you into it. If you are put on the spot, tell them upfront that this is something they need to work out themselves. This is friendly advice - If you feel that their marriage is going to break apart - you don't want to add fuel to the fire.
+BudMan MVC Posted September 6, 2008 MVC Share Posted September 6, 2008 Is your Dad so old that you have to take care of him, change his diaper - that sort of thing. Does he have Alzheimers, or just plain senile? Do you pay the internet bill? Is it your computer? Did he ASK YOU FOR HELP on blocking porn, cuz he just can not control his urges? If not -- then what you should be doing is minding your own freaking business!! If my son did anything to block anything on my network -- I would knock him into next week. That being said -- opendns is great way to block stuff like this, but I would suggest you only use such a tool is if your dad requested you to do such a thing, or is so old that he can not take care of himself.
