0 capr Posted September 9, 2008 Share Posted September 9, 2008 the codecs really don't matter just use VLC to play it. it plays almost any format using any codecs. so you are safe as long as the player has VLC. you didn't mention you will be using it on the 360 so i am not even going to talk about it. the assumption is that the computer you are going to be watching it on is restricted and yo can't install various codecs to get it to work. well VLC has a portable version that doesn't require an installation and will play almost anything... Pick one of those codecs and go with that. Don't -EVER- assume the receiving end understands anything about PC's, about installing software and/or using alternative programs.... ;-) If you stick to the basics, there's a minimum chance it will boomerang back at you. So all the suggestions above for VLC, converters and such are fine, but should be avoided, unless you're absolutely sure the receiving end is capable of adding software to his PC with the basic understanding of how & why. When sending stuff to clients it's -always- the lowest common denominator, unless it's absolutely clear what they can play otherwise.
