Bollard
Im moving away from Hotmail / Live, and am undecided between these two alternatives. GMail looks rather basic, but is pretty quick and has loads of storage. GMX is more flashy with its AJAX and looks very promising, but could easily turn into a slow, bloated Hotmail clone. What are your thoughts?
Elessar
Never heard of GMX...so i'm going to have to go with the more popular and better Gmail :D
Bollard
Damn... should have made this a poll. Got it. To the people who are saying GMail, have you used GMX before?

GMX is a more bloated & slow Windows Live Mail/Yahoo!Mail clone....
markwolfe Veteran Posted September 9, 2008 Veteran Share Posted September 9, 2008 GMail. I can log in with just my username without the need to fully specify the @xxxx.com. Gmail doesn't annoyingly open up an extra window to display. And these two items are even before I have actually used my newly-created GMX account. KZWings
I just watched the GMX intro tour. It looks pretty nice. I haven't tried it though, and its only in Beta...so not sure how real it is or if those features will stay that way. I see The Canadian above me posted that its bloated. ViperAFK
Just tried out GMX. it is nice but seems a lot slower than gmail. I just love gmails simplistic interface, lightning fast, and just works. @ KZWings I'm diggin your sig :)
Unto Darkness
GMail is integrated with Google Docs, so GMail gets a vote from me! EDIT: ^$%^# I accidentally voted for GMX...
The Canadian
I see The Canadian above me posted that its bloated. I've had an account on it for many moons, I never use it because it's so slow even on broadband (xDSL & cable); granted I wish Gmail had some features that GMX and other web-based email clients have.... The Canadian
At people saying GMX is in beta remember gmail is still in beta too  Beta or not as everyone who has been using Gmail since '04 -- me include -- when it came out, would say it's a full-featured web-based email client, but still needs some features.... tsupersonic
Gmail, no doubt. IMO, Gmail is the service to use. Never even heard of GMX

tom01
I wanted to use Gmail but I didn't want the 'tom.1.2008@googlemail.com'. I hate having to give out a long email to a idiot  so I chose GMX, the webmail isn't the best but I use the POP3 option anyway but I always seem to get drawn back to my Live email :p
bane7378
I have both but I find GMX to be a very slow interface. It is quite slick and very nice interface but it just tends to be too much for even a broadband connection. I'm sure that it has more to do with the speed that things load on the back end but it can be frustrating when all you want to do is get in, look at a message, and get back out. Another drawback is, as a previous poster had stated, when you log in you have to use username@gmx.com as the username because they offer several different domain extensions other than just gmx.com. That feature can get a little bit annoying. I know you have to do the same thing with hotmail because they have the different domain names as well but it just feels cumbersome. Hopefully with time the folks at GMX will work out the speed issues but for now, I will stick with GMail for the main account and just keep an eye on the development of GMX. Just my two cents. :)
.Kompressor
I'll test out GMX. I like the idea of able to retreive mail from all your other email providers into 1 box. that's time saving.
