I think i got jipped!?

Recommended Posts

I bought a P4 1.8 Ghz like a while ago, and up until recently, i always thought that it was a genuine P4. I noticed tho that whenever i run Quake III Engine powered games such as Jedi Knight II and Wolfenstein, it box that displays at the very beginning says that i have a PIII. It's the box that has lots of info and only flashes for about a second of two before the game actually launches. I downloaded the Intel's ID untility and it says that i have a P4. Well right now i believe Intel but i'm not sure. Is anyone else having this problem?

lol, don't worry about it. I think Q3 came out before P4s so the game just recognizes it as a similar class. Some things report anything from a Pentium 1 up as a 5x86. It just depends on how specific the check is I guess. If you really want to be sure, get WCPUID (search google). It will tell you everything about your CPU.

If you have a 1.8GHz P3, you definately didn't get jipped- that would probably outperform a 1.8 GHz P4, and would sell for a lot - possibly as much as a voodoo 5 6000 (they went for $1000+ even if it didn't work)

But I doubt it is a P3
