Registry entries missing from boot section of registry!?

Well, this is an odd one... I'll just give you the command line output.

Some registry entries were missing from the boot optimization section of the reg
istry. (0x89000017)

Normal defrag works, but I'd love to speed up my system booting time... It worked once before, but I just formatted again to no avail (last two times I did it didn't work, before installing anything, too!).

Any ideas?

Don't defrag ever unless you are the system administrator of a heavily-used database server in the back office. Manual defragging is a colossal waste of time. It doesn't do anything. Modern operating systems are highly resistant to fragmentation. Furthermore, Win 7 and Vista automatically defrag for you.

Don't edit the registry except in extremely rare conditions where you know what you are doing, perhaps because you are being guided step by step by a Microsoft KB article.

Use -b not /b

(Don't edit the registry) what is this about ? That like saying drive the car but do not ever open the hood. If you want to learn a system this is were it all happens. You can make a change in windows or just do it yourself in the reg. You can make changes in your system here that can not be done in windows. This is a beta and this were most beta tester will spend there time with loged reg reports.

No offense, but when my system regularily becomes fragmented, I like to defrag it.

I'm running this in an administrator command prompt, and I tried it with the -b flag instead of /b; same result, unfortunately.

I have no clue what would have caused this, as it's on a new clean install... And charles - good analogy, I agree 100% with you on that. I'll defrag my computer when I want, and I'll edit the registry at my leisure - you'd probably freak at the lack of security policies and features on my main desktop running XP...
