Preorder UT2004

Recommended Posts

I read an IRC transcript with VP Mark Rein and he said it's basically gonna be a gold edition of UT2k3. So it will be released with the current patch and whatever bonus packs that are out by then. It's still UT2k3, just a GOTY (Game of the Year) type like with the original UT.

So are we going to be ably to get those extra maps from the GOTY if we already own UT2k3?

Well remember it isn't GOTY edition, because UT2003 wasnt goty...

so now they will release an new UT every year

I really hope not. I think that would totally dilute the series and send it down the crapper IMO

I think that UT2K3 is great fun! I hope that it will just be like the GOTY with the bonus packs and patches, because I hate downloading like 350MBs worth of stuff, so that will be cool.

The series has already gone down the crapper with UT2003... UT still rocks, however.

Why would you say that? I've never played the original but from what I understand 2k3 is pretty much the same as the original with a graphics overhaul.

Why do you say that? When UT was GOTY, so was about 5 other games including Deus Ex which was another shooter. It's all marketing hype. There is no real "award" for GOTY except for what the gaming mags say and there are no medals or trophies. You make it sound like there can be only one GOTY edition and that is positively incorrect. :p

maybe they're gonna make it more like sports games where a new version is released every year with minimal adjustments, it could be because there wasn't that much difference between UT & UT2K3

If that's the case though why not just patch? well there's the cash of course if you look at how games like fifa leave favourite key players every other year out because of "Legal Reasons" more likely because that guarantees that fans will by a game every year. makes a lot of money :(

It's almost the exact same game. I don't know how anyone could like one and hate the other. The few minor differences are all improvements over UT1 IMO.

How is the gameplay different? The most common complaint I hear is that the speed has been increased but thats only because admins can increase the speed of the game on the server side. I see no problems with the speed myself though...in fact, I prefer it that way. Other than that I don't see how the gameplay can be that much different when you essentially have the same same gametypes along with some new ones.

Care to elaborate?
