The Thrawn arc by Timothy Zahn makes for a good read - in chronological order:

• Dark Force Rising
  
• The Last Command
  
• Spectre of the Past
  
• Vision of the Future
  
• Survivor's Quest (no appearance of Thrawn anymore, but connected to "Outbound Flight")

The "Republic Commando" arc by Karen Traviss is also good:

I did movie set security on The Memory Keeper's Daughter, I own the book but still have not read it yet.

Another recommendation for the Thrawn Trilogy and Hand of Thrawn Duology Haven't read the others but if they're by Timothy Zahn, they're likely to be good.
