[rel] Gmail Notifier Plus for Windows 7

Recommended Posts

I've been using this software for a few days and love. Starting to get errors with it though. Any help?

Also, I'm now having trouble getting my monitor to come back on when it goes into standby. Monitor cycles off and on. ctrl-alt-del brings up the menu and I can get in that way. Related?

See the end of this message for details on invoking

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

application or computer (machine.config) must have the

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging

enabled.

For example:

<configuration>

<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer

rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I don't know if it's just me, or someone else is having the same issue. But the application does not log me in to any of my Gmail/Google Aps accounts at all. It just opens the login page and that's it.

Yes, I am signed in with the application and it is checking for new emails and stuff.

Ideas?

You must be signed to Gmail in your browser if you're not it will ask you to do it, simple. There was discussion about it.

Oh, I must've missed that. It's because it used to sign you in to your inbox before, so I was like "Why isn't it doing it now?"

Well, if that's the way it's going to be.. I do miss the old method where the Gmail Notifier signed you in. The FF Addon does that, but oh well..

Hi i am also using this app. And it seems to work, but when i try to open an email or try to go to the inbox, it starts windows word 2007. There it says that my browser does not support java and that i can use simple view. Why doesnt my browser start up in stead of word? I use windows 7 with explorer.

Cheers!

Hi there,

Thx for this great application. I'd like to make a suggestion of which i think will be very useful: making middle click on the icon open your inbox. Normally middle clicking opens a new instance, you could catch it to open up gmail.

(I also would love it to not show up in alt-tab, but i see that has been addressed before..)

Thx again.

I don't understand how to install this application. I downloaded the zip file (v2.1.1.0), extracted the application within it, and then double clicked on it. All it does is give a "Gmail Notifier Plus has stopped working" box.

I'm running Windows 7 Processional 64-bit. Does this app not work on 64-bit operating systems?

As I understand it, Google changed the way it behaves, so that logging in automatically the way that the Gmail Notifier did stopped working. In fact, even if you were already signed in with the browser, attempting to log in again would redirect you to the login page. Daty2k1 tried to fix that, but eventually released a modified version that just assumes you're logged in, so that it will at least work in that case. I was also trying to help him, and it may be that you just can't use one application to log into another (GMail does a check to make sure that the application logging in requested the login page first). If that's the case, a Firefox extension could still be modified to work, since it's part of Firefox. I'm not 100% sure if that's how it works, so there may be some loophole somewhere, but in the meantime it's just not working.

It sounds like your default browser is somehow set to Word. That's the only explanation I can think of. Try this. Go to your start menu, and select Default Programs on the right. Then "Associate a file type or protocol with a program." Finally, scroll down to HTTP and HTTPS (you can press H to skip down there, past all of the .* entries). It should tell you what program is set to open http and https links. If it's Word, hit the Change Program button to choose Internet Explorer.

It should work simply by opening it, no installation needed. Sorry, I can't really give you any advice, I use Windows 7 Professional 64-bit as well, and it works for me.

Updated with version 2.1.1:

Feel free to report any bug you might encounter :)

It's great!! Amazing.

But i think that it can be improved.

At home we are 3 users in Windows 7, with all three sessions open.

And if we do this, the program crashs with the second session when you try to change the configuration.

Wishes from Barcelona

Updated with version 2.1.2:

SoftPedia

MediaFire

Localhostr

The SoftPedia link will get updated soon. I fixed the bug with Danish translation and multiple sessions! Thanks for letting me know :yes:

I now know exactly how the new session cookie for automatic login works. I "just" need to find a way to implement it...

@daty2k1, thank you also for fixing the "unknown sender" bug.

Thx as well for the app.. But I would second above.. It just seems instinctive coming from the xp version to want to double click it to go to your inbox..

I also seem to have an issue that its not showing a counter of new emails

Great app, was a favorite back in the days.

But now that I've gotten an android phone, i don't need a notifier anymore, as the phone instantly notifies me :)

*Great work nonetheless

Amazing Job!

This neat little program is the best gmail Notifier out there (at least when using Win7).

Now if there was a "Mark all as read / Mark as read" function this would be the ultimate gmail tool in existence. :)

Yeah I'd like to add imap support in the next version so that you can mark as read, etc. Just need to find some time to work on it! Also, I'd really like to fix that login thing but I'm kinda stuck at the moment...

************** JIT Debugging **************

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

application or computer (machine.config) must have the

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging

enabled.

For example:

<configuration>

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

I've tried Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Do you have any suggestions?

Great app!

What about a semi-large yellow star or something on one corner of the gmail logo when we have new mail so that we can see if we have new mail from across the room if we are not sitting at our desk?

I also second the automatic check for updates feature!
