USB key problem

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine lend his usb key to someone who managed to kill it somehow. I tried a few things with diskpart to fix it but without success. He says he just removed the USB without ejecting it...

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt

DISKPART> DETAIL DISK

USB DISK 2.0 USB Device

There are no volumes.

Now I turn to you, anyone has a clue on how to fix this? The device is an Integral Courier 8GB USB stick. Any help is appreciated.

There's a really good troubleshoot guide here: http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic122125.html

Also try this:

HP USB Disk Storage Format Utility

http://downloads.pcworld.com/pub/new/utili...als/SP27608.exe

I tried the HP Utility and it gave me an error "Error: There is no media in the specified device.". I think it's an electronic failure. Thanks for your fast reply :-)

If its the same in another computer as well, then you can be sure its a USB failure of some sort

Try this one as well: http://hddguru.com/download/software/HDDGU...p.2.36.1181.exe

By the way, it won't format your HardDrive

Edit

Actually you select the USB drive when the program runs

I just thought, hmm, if you had multiple drives or partitions, it is possible to mistakenly format those drives, but these drives will show very clearly, so don't format them ;)

Does the drive come up in GParted? Also, like kimsland said try in another computer.

If that still doesn't work you likely have a hardware issue on the USB drive, not sure if it's fixable.. I'd be curious if you end up fixing it somehow though!
