housegroover Posted May 9, 2003 Share Posted May 9, 2003 VICTORIA Police may have been using unlicensed software, an Auditor-General's report into a controversial outsourcing contract with IBM Australia has said. "Potential instances of unlicensed software" were discovered in a 2001 third-party independent review of licensing, costing the police $528,000 in additional license costs. The dispute over who should pay for the additional licenses is one of a number of issues the Auditor-General found were in dispute. Under the terms of the contract, IBM was required to manage software licenses and maintain a register. The earlier independent review found the register was "incomplete and inaccurate". Victoria Police inked the contract - then worth $151.5 million over six years, but now $85 million over budget - in 1999.
