Needless to say, I now have all the components I believe I will need in order to install my new 3.5 inch SATA HDD as well as Win XP Pro x64 Edition on my computer. OS: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition HDD: Barracuda? 7200.11 Hard Drives - http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/...racuda_7200.11/ Motherboard: Micro-Star International, MS-7082 (Chipset; SiS/661FX) *Note, I am NOT installing a motherboard, I just thought this was useful info. What I need is a thorough walk-through of installation procedures for the HDD, especially where installing the drivers from a boot disk are concerned, as I was told I would need to do, as well as verification that I have indeed acquired the correct drivers. For the F6 thing should you need it. Have SiS 964 Chipset SATA Drivers on Floppy disk in after the CD has booted. After “Press any key to boot from CD....” the blue Setup screen appears press “F6” now then eventually a screen to specify drivers will show press “S” then select the right driver and enter. Thank you for the reply, Initially, in an older post, I was attempting to add this SATA drive as a secondary, but it wasn't being recognized I surmise that it was due to the lack of drivers being installed during the initial OS install. A question regarding the disk; I've seen some rather involved procedures for setting up a "boot disk" with the drivers on it in an executable fashion, were you suggesting that I would simply need to "place" the drivers onto the disk and they should be loadable as is, or will I need to get instructions on the whole "makedisk" procedure? Hello again, I've downloaded a file that contains a bunch of other folders and files and I am unsure what exactly from this download needs to go on the disk, as it is well over the 1.44 mb size. Okay, I'm not sure if I did that before, but when I did try the disk it said something like, "could not find txtsetup.oem," but I'll go back and make sure I've got just the files you mentioned. Well, so far this is how things happened: I put in the XP cd and windows setup began and on the bottom of the screen, among other things, it stated "press F6" for installing the SATA things, so it was then that I promptly inserted the floppy and pressed F6, it got to a point to continue, but I wasn't sure if anything installed or if I missed the opportunity so I discontinued. After trying again, instead of windows sort of installing things like last time it got to a point where it said that no drive or whatever could be found, now is the time to "press S" if you have third party stuff and so that's what I did and it said the "could not find txt.setup' deal. Again, it displays a sort of alternating marquee at the beginning that lists pressing F6 as an option and I tap it a bunch of times to no discernible effect. It takes 30 seconds to a minute or so after hitting F6 for it to actually ask for the disk (if I remember correctly), but I do remember that nothing happens right after you hit F6 (other than it continues to load the normal files for the XP setup). To set up Windows now, press ENTER To repair a Windows installation using Recovery Console, press R. Because the only place I can find that OEM file is from the unofficial link you posted. You shouldn't need to do anything with the jumpers unless your mobo supports SATA II 300Gb/s, then you'll have to remove the jumper to enable it. In one folder, I think it was Floppy Image or something, there was a text file called, "Make disk" or something with a few instructions on just what you're talking about, i'm gonna try... That's it, just copy the whole contents of the 964_180 folder that's inside that FloppyImage folder to your floppy disk.
