Good Alarm Clock for Windows 7?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know a good alarm clock software for Windows 7?

I'm trying to find a software that can play an mp3 at different times for each day of the week so I can wake up for different classes. The catch is that I want leave my computer in sleep mode at night. Is it possible for any software to wake up a computer and then run the alarm?

I found something nice with this: http://www.geocities.com/vinodtandon/cac/index.html

But it won't automatically wake up the computer. Any suggestions? Could I possibly use the task scheduler to make it wake up the computer?

Task Scheduler is probably the most flexible solution (and doesn't involve any resource overhead).

Here is a screenshot of the set that I used for the previous school year.

Set a music file or playlist as the action to perform. Then set the times and dates, and under Conditions, let the task wake the computer.

If you can lay your hands on Plus! Digital Media Edition for Windows XP or XP Media Center Edition, it has got a nice alarm clock app and a sleep timer as well for WMP. Try if it works on newer OSes.

@Relativity_17: Thanks! I just did some testing for that. I think it'll work just fine.

@tuxplorer: Thanks for the suggestion. If the task scheduler doesn't work out, I'll try that out.

Though this is not what you wanted, a good hardware alarm is the most reliable way. There may be many complications with your pc that will make you miss classes. Eg, if the power gets cut, the computer will get switched off and you will not hear the alarm.

I personally use my laptop as an alarm clock. Given that it sleeps at night and can stay asleep for somewhere around two weeks before suffering significant power drain, I don't think power outages are an issue.

For some reason, I wasn't thinking about laptops at all when making that comment. I agree with you as far as laptops are concerned.

I use Citrus Alarm Clock. The program's no longer free, but I use the version that was free. You might find it a little easier to use than Task Scheduler.

Here's a download link, http://www.sendspace.com/file/3kgtzj

Edit: I just checked, and it doesn't wake the computer up from sleep, so ignore this suggestion. The new version can do this though, but it's $13, http://www.ornj.net/citrus/

Gadget that you can use, i'm not sure if it wakes up your computer but you can choose your own song to wake you up with. The only downside is that you can't make the clock go on a weekly schedule, so if you set it to wake you up at 7 AM every morning then it will do the same thing every day unless you turn it off.

I also just tested out how easy the task scheduler is and it's very easy to make an MP3 play at a certain time every week. It can wake the computer up too so I think that's a better solution than downloading a program.

Thanks a bunch! I'm running the trial right now and after some testing, it does exactly what I need. I couldn't get the task manager thing working so I'll probably end up buying that software.

Nice; I'm glad it suits your needs. I'm considering buying the new version too, as I'd like to put my computer to sleep from now on.

It's a 5 year old thread and I am sure the OP has found what he was looking for.
