Black & White Running & Patch Installation Issues

Ok, I think Black & White itself installed alright, although it doesnt run, this is why I'm trying to install these patches. I downloaded all of them (1.1, 1.2 & 1.3) and none of them install, I get the error message "Neither command line parameter specified is an existing directory" When installing any of the patches, but when trying to install 1.1, I get "You do not have the correct version of Black and White installed to use this patch" aswell. If anyone has any clue how to fix this I would be very happy! :turned:

Edit: Before anyone suggests it, I have tryed uninstalling many, many times.

uhmmm 1.3??? I only heard that 1.1 and 1.2 came out... am having trouble looking for 1.2... I don't even see 1.3 around :blink: ... is that patch offical??? :huh:

Yes, it is official but only adds support for some special controller. But I will try anything to get it working. You can find 1.2 at Fileplanet. Does your Black & White work?

1.1 patch fixes bugs and lets you run the addons.

1.2 patch is a multiplayer patch enabling clans and special winning conditions

1.3 patch lets you play Black & White using something called a "P5 Glove"

The only thing I can really think of is to check your game version manually.

open regedit and go here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Lionhead Studios Ltd\Black & White

Then look for the DWORD "GameVersion". It wants to be set to 100

If that's set fine and it still doesnt work then take a look at www.bwgame.com There's a massive collection of help getting the patches to work on the forum there :)

Aye, I have done checked the registry already but it didnt help, nor do *any* B&W tech sites :) Seems I'm the only person in the world to have this problem. Ah well, no idea what to do next.

hey..i have this problem wen i install black n white..it gets to about 85% and then a message comes up saying Component transfer error

Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

i dont know what that means! and it happens everytime! please help..does anybody know what I can doo?

1) bad original cd

2) bad copy

3) bad image

I know this is like 4000 years old but I tried googling the answer myself today, and this was the first forum that brings it up. So just for Black and White players sakes I will post the real solution.

 

As someone said there is some weird coding error when you select the directory for the patch to take place. It seems to involve the patch not recognizing SPACES!!! in folder names.

 

In order to get around that, copy the whole entire "Black & White: game directory to a new folder, easiest is in the main directory, renamde the folder anything you want but keep it short and sweet, and remember, no spaces. Then open the patch and manually select the folder we just created, the patch will actually work. When you are all done, copy your new patched folder back to its original location and make sure it keeps the original name, "Black & White".
