Dell Studio XPS 1340 Hangs/Locks Up

Recommended Posts

I picked up a Dell Studio XPS 1340 just under 2 weeks ago and as soon as I got it home, I loaded Windows 7 Professional x64 from MSDN on it. I was able to find all the drivers and it seemed to be running fine.

But lately, I have noticed during simple tasks in programs such as Outlook '07, FireFox, Windows Live Messenger, and a few other programs, that the computer will just lockup for about a minute (where I won't be able to do anything) then it will seem to start working again.

During this time, the HD light is lit up (not blinking) and then once the lockup is over the HD light begins blinking again.

I also have noticed there are times when booting the computer hangs for a good 1-2 minutes on the Starting Windows screen (HD light solid).

In Event Viewer there is quite a few of these errors as well:

Event 129, nvstor64

Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued

Help?

i'm in the same boat. did you install the forceware drivers? I think it's the sata/raid drivers included within this package...i've done a bit of research and it appears to be a common issue, the nvidia forums were littered with the same pausing type problems.

Won't that void the warranty? My friend told me in HP, if you install using a non-HP CD that comes with it, it will void the warranty.. same goes if you delete the "Recovery" Partition or re-create partitions on the laptop :(

Guys,

I've faced the problem before and you know what, I've found a solution. Uninstall your chipset driver (I assume you guys used the latest chipset driver for Windows 7), and install the previous version of chipset driver, which is for Vista (A00-release date 10 Jan. 2009). Below is the link, currently the driver is unavailabe, only the latest one is available.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9W79PDOK

Give me a result then. Anyway, I'm using Windows 7 x64. The chipset driver above is for x64. I've report the latest chipset driver problem but Dell just s*ckss*ssss. I don't have the x32 chipset driver.

I've deleted my recovery partition in my previous XPS and Dell just replace my lappy without any doubt. Actually, it is not recovery partition, it is just for diagnosis.

Actually if you spent some time visiting the dell website:

http://support.ap.dell.com/support/topics/...;l=en&s=lca

If you are experiencing computer lock-ups or freezes on your Studio XPS 13, it is recommended to update to the latest Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) and nVidia Video Driver.

Save any work and close all programs.

It is recommended that you add this link to your favorites or print the instructions out as this is a two part process that will require a restart of the computer.

The computer must be running on A/C power during this process.

For information on how to download and install drivers and updates, refer to Dell Knowledge Base article "How to Use the Drivers and Downloads Website" Article ID: 324722.

The BIOS update us under the Bios category and the nVidia Video Driver is under the Video category.

If the lockups persist after the updates, contact Dell Tech Support in your region.

All the above tweaking, hacking, uploading and downloading is not required.
