how to prepare xbox 360 for sale

Recommended Posts

hello,

my second xbox 360 died on me, and with it my desire to keep my xbox 360. it did not rrod so the standard 1 year warranty applied, and of course, expired. i decided to pay to have it fixed and then sell it.

i went the official route and today received my re-certified zephyr unit with a shiny new one year warranty.

my question is regarding xbla games that i had purchased. microsoft transferred my serial number and with it the ability to again download the xbla games i had purchased, negating the need to be signed in to live to play them. (please correct me if i'm mistaken on this point.)

my specific question, are the games tied to my gamertag or are the games tied to my console? if i plan on selling the console, can i legally sell it with the xbla games on the hard drive and will ANY user be able to play them once the buyer creates their own gamertag?

i do not have any interest in breaking any laws, but if i can offer games i'm sure it would help in selling my console.

thanks for any input that can be shared.

but now i re-read the page sent with my replacement...

"after you download your content again, anyone on this console can use it, whether you're signed in to xbox live or not."

so now i have to question whether or not it's tied to the gamertag or the console once again, as i read that to mean any gamertag can play the games on this console.

the games can only be downloaded from your gamer tag but the content can only be played on xbox it was downloaded for unless you re-download it. if you dont want to download you can just use the Content License transfer and it will transfer the license and make all the content you downloaded usable on the new console.

as a part of the repair, microsoft has already transfered the content license to my new console, does that mean the new owner would be allowed to download those games i purchased, or does that mean i have to use the original gamertag to download them, after which any gamertag on the new console would be able to play them.

if i read right, i can re-download all the games, remove my gamertag, sell the console, and after the new owner creates a gamertag the xbla games will be there for them to play.

i suppose i could just test this by creating another gamertag instead of wasting everyone's time. it did help me to type it out though.

Clear the HDD before sale and when he tries to download them he will have to purchase them. The only way you can include the games in the sale are if you give him your gamertag...
