installing programs in virtualbox


Question

I have win7 and have xp installed in virtualbox, how can I install apps onto xp? I have my source files on win7 how can transfer them to xp?

set up a shared folder in VirtualBox that points to the folder on 7 that has the stuff you want to install

shared folders can be found at \\vboxsvr\share-name in the virtual XP machine

or if the software is on a CD, mount the physical CD drive in VirtualBox

I shared the folders, but having a hard time accessing them. Where do I type \\vboxsvr\share-name? I tried teh address bar and cmd but not working.

shared folders on VirtualBox work mostly the same way as network shares.

for example, you make a share called "apps". one way to access it is to open an Internet Explorer window and type into the address bar "\\vboxsrv\apps". it will change to a regular Explorer folder window and show the files/folders.

another way is to do Tools > Map Network Drive and put in "\\vboxsrv\apps" in the location box. this will mount it as a drive letter in My Computer.

replace "apps" with the name of the shared folder you setup in VirtualBox
