Posted February 24, 2010 Share Posted February 24, 2010 i bought a asus netbook yesterday and a netgear wgr614v10 wireless router. i have it all set up but on my netbook it keeps kicking me off the wireless? i do have security set up and a password but this is driving me nuts. any ideas? the only firewall im running on the netbook is the windows one. the netbook is running windows 7 starter. any ideas? there is no firmware upgrade for my router and i have the latest wifi drivers installed on my netbook. Maybe try another. 3) Where is your laptop in relationship to your router? Any solid walls or anything else in the way? Also, maybe try a different wireless router...maybe the one you got is bad. I would also reset your router to factory defaults and try it "as is" Meaning, dont config security or anything. Now, dont keep it unsecure forever...just long enough to do testing. Maybe when you configed the router something didnt take, or was configed incorrectly. okay since im not getting replies, which security should i use? Need to make sure your laptops wireless card can handle WPA2 tho. But since you have a new netbook, it should support it. Tho the encryption method probably isnt whats causing your disconnects. techbeck Posted February 24, 2010 Share Posted February 24, 2010 One other question.... Are you using Windows to control/config your wireless connection? Or are you using the netbooks wireless cards config program? I noticed that if I use the built in Windows program to config my wireless laptop connection, I have issues. If I use the utility that came with the laptop/card...it works better. Do you have other wireless devices in your home that run on the same frequency? That could cause you to drop your connection.
