So since you currently have a virus... and you want to upgrade to Windows 7, perhaps the best idea would be to reformat and start fresh with Windows 7? In other words... don't upgrade, perform a clean install. Backup just your documents and stuff (not programs) onto an external harddrive, and then be sure to scan those folders BEFORE copying them back after you install Windows 7.

If you still have problems after this... then it would isolate it to hardware (perhaps your mouse is bad??? - does the keyboard freeze too?)

Viruses/adware can affect safemode too because they might load their own shell and it'll still start all the bad things you tried to prevent from starting....

You can try to remove clean.exe if you want.... let us know if you want help on that but it probably will be easier and more worthwhile just to start fresh.

Is this an actual external USB mouse, or a Trackpoint/nipple built into a laptop keyboard?

Even if that's not the specific device you're using, let us know if you have one, it all helps.

It must be a regular USB mouse, unless the OP plays games with a trackpad or something. It'd be very peculiar but I guess it is technically possible.

What brand of mouse is it? And are you using a Mouse Mat? If not, try and find a soft one which is a plain colour. Should net you an optimal tracking surface.

Aye, but I was wondering whether or not he was using a laptop with one built in. Perhaps it's getting caught while he's gaming.

I know on IBM/Lenovo models the Trackpoint is prone to wandering upwards when jogged, I wouldn't be surprised if it affected other brands.

Check on the manufacturers website for newer firmware/drivers. What kind of mouse is it?

Could it be something to do with DPC latency? Some bad drivers cause huge spikes in latency in fixed intervals. This would cause the mouse pointer to get stuck momentarily, and also skipping of audio and video.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm having this same problem too, it has happened at random times in the past, but now it is happening every day, started a couple days ago. Clean reformat.

i solved this stupid problem, the reason for all this was a dirty mouse trackpad which had torn off and some membranes of the cloth were getting inside the led sensor and hampering its operation, actually it was my sister who discovered it by accident .I feel like a huge fool now the admin can now kill this thread.
