HELP! Windows 7 aero and transparency not working.

34 posts in this topic

so I installed win7 back in January, and aero and transparency never had problems.

but due to my battery's short life, I have to switch to the basic theme when on the go.

But I've never had problems with switching back to aero with the transparency.

So anyway, sometime in April I've switched to basic theme and haven't switched back until now.

But when I try to use the aero theme, transparency won't work. (this happened before, but it comes back to aero once I click troubleshoot)

So I clicked troubleshoot, and it took a minute with a message 'desktop window management is disabled'

I did some research online, and restarted dwm in services. but I still have the same error.

any help? thanks in advance.

I would go to the Control Panel, and try turning on Aero/transparency again.

Otherwise I would run a System file check.

just to make sure, are you in balanced or high performance power mode? I have had this issue before, but only when I was in battery saver mode

anyone with a tip?

I'm in power saver mode, I'll switch to high performance to see if it works

it still didn't work even if using high performance

Yeah, power saver mode disables aero, try with high performance

are you using the correct video card drivers?

the card drivers can't be wrong cos aero previously worked

Maybe you need to go into System in Control panel and refresh your WEI score? That can turn Aero Off.

I'll try it, it might be the cause because it says unrated

I'll post back when it finishes.'

There`s a couple of possible solutions here Microsoft Forum

Maybe also try from an elevated CMD prompt "winsat formal -restart clean"

winsat /? for a list of available switches

I'm pretty sure my graphic card work with aero, because It always worked before.

I'd go to Device Manager and confirm this just in case.. most of the times it's the littlest things that cause problems..

The advice that I'm getting from a suspended member is to remove quicktime.

"it's happened to allot of people and that was the problem."

ity might actually be the driver, because when I clicked troubleshoot aero problems today, it actually said it's driver problems, and it needs to update.

I'm updating now to see if it works.

here's what the error looks like now,

post-301972-12749640179103.png

and I've tried to update the driver from windows update, it failed.

So I downloaded the driver from intel, it's the intel 965 chipset.

but when it was installing, it got an 'unknown error' and had to exit.

so I can't install.

what can I do?
