Laptop battery discharges so fast ..

Hy

2 weeks until now my laptop battery discharge so fast (maximum 30min) .. even I'm not doing anything special that does require power from it .. I use this power plan & windows 7 ultimate . Any solution for this issue ? I simply cannot find a decent answer .

Battery: 6-cell lithium ion, 55WHr

How many years you are using that lap?

my laptop also same trouble.

your battery life is coming down. it may come down to 15 mins backup time. you need to replace with the new battery.

If you load up a live Linux disc, you can check the stats of your battery such as its capacity and charge rating. Great for troubleshooting as the battery may be ok, just that there is a process running in Windows killing it in 30 mins.... :unsure:

What's the make and model of your laptop?

My mother has an HP 620s and the battery now discharges in about 3 minutes or so. Even in Linux - which is now it's primary OS.

Chances are your battery capacity is gone. I'm going to take a guess and say u keep the battery in the laptop while always on AC power. The thing is with Li-On batteries, the cell structure gets weakened when u keep them at full charge for long periods of time. They recommend storing Li-On batteries at around 50% charge to reduce capacity decreases over time.

You basically need a new battery.

Looks like your battery is fine. You might want to adjust some of your settings in the advanced power options. Especially graphics card settings, as those will drain your power faster than anything else.

I know this thread is dead, but wanted to clarify something in case someone (as I just did) finds this when searching.

Xiphi is absolutely correct in asking for "powercfg /energy" and his analysis of the same is also correct - assuming that the results provided were actually true! On some older systems (including this one), the BIOS will lie and report the "Current Capacity" as the "Design Capacity". :wacko: Whether you attribute this to malice (hiding the fact so they don't have to pay for the battery during the warranty) or incompetence (Older versions of Windows didn't report this data point) is up to you. The fact that the two numbers are exactly identical is a tell-tale sign. Maybe, just possibly, if you checked right when you first bought the computer you would get identical numbers.

Also, I think that the battery capacity numbers are low to the point that they are missing a digit. :)

I am thinking Linux is the reason for the battery drain. I have had two instance where the battery have drained to less than thirty min after using Linux for few weeks.

Last year my battery drained low(After i installed Linux side with Windows) and had to call Dell and they replaced it for free.

It has been fine for more than year and then a month ago i installed Linux and now windows 7 shows warning and asks me to consider replacing the battery.

Now my battery is somewhere in 40 min range and i have stopped using Linux. A month ago my battery was giving me a solid 1.5 hours.....
