fedriko
Hi, I installed a 3 months trial of windows 7 enterprise edition, which expired yesterday. Now I get an empty background and windows notification at startup, but I have no problem with that. I'm using my own antivirus program (mcafee). I don't care if I don't get windows updates. I want to know what are other restrictions of this situation and how long can I run without purchasing a genuine copy. Thanks in advance.
Shock Doc
I think discussing this is against the rules, my good chum... Running a trial copy is genuine though... - Sorry, thought you were talking about an illegal copy -
Phenom II
Forever - there is no limit afaik, just the annoying lack of features and nag screens But becoming genuine is advisable as you may not get updates etc
The_Observer
why not just buy a copy? its cheap enough to buy the Home Edition... i got it for free thanks to UNI, and my dad only paid 175NZD OEM version.
Phenom II
Or reinstall every 3 months so you stay genuine There is also a way to reset the trial but you will have to google for that answer
nukenorman
Not everyone has money to buy a legit copy of Windows. He may be like 14 and needs a computer for school with an OS. Some people don't have parents who buy them these things. Never know other peoples situations.
Eric Veteran Posted July 31, 2010 Veteran Share Posted July 31, 2010 It will eventually become unusable, but you should be able to recover the data from it. @nukenorman: We're not discussing non-legit copies. :)

Ambroos
If it's like the normal version of Windows, after a while it will start automatically shutting down after using it for 1/2 hrs.
Descartes
It doesn't shut down after 2 hours or anything. It just removes your wallpaper and nags you everytime you start up the machine. edit: oh wait... I thought we were discussing RTM my bad... hdood
You can run it for the 10 (x5) day activation grace period, then the 90 day trial period. After that, your right to use it ends.
kaffra
Q: When does the Windows 7 Enterprise 90-Day Trial expire? A: Windows 7 Enterprise 90-Day Trial is valid for 90 days after installation. After expiration, your computer will shut down every hour. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/ee388361.aspx

Some people don't have parents who buy them these things. Never know other peoples situations. I think you were being sarcastic about me not buying a genuine copy. I've my legit copy of windows vista. Just wanted to try windows 7. And yes. kaffra is correct. My PC just shut down unexpectedly. Thank god I wasn't doing anything important (as always). I found a way to extend my trial. I'm sharing it because it's perfectly legal and built into OS by Microsoft. Here's how it works: Click on the start button and type "Cmd" into the Start Search box. Press Ctrl-Shift-Enter to open the command prompt. Type "slmgr -rearm" and hit enter. Reboot the computer. Make sure to re-arm the system again 29 or 30 days later. You can rearm your system for maximum of three times. Obviously this feature was built into windows 7 by Microsoft, and the company has confirmed that extending the evaluation period is not a violation of Windows 7's end user agreement. fedriko
Why not try a Linux destro? Like Ubuntu? Problem solve. I think we're discussing on a 'windows' support forum. But you are right. Because Microsoft is going strict about piracy of windows vista and 7, many would change their OS to 'Linux'. i will try it after my second trial have expired. Rahul101vc
Theres no real problem using a non genuine windows (mine is win 7 ultimate) ...my windows had corrupted when i installe windows 8 as second os...when i recovered it.. win 7 started showin its not genuine..... (it is a genuine package) it removed wallpaper , shows popup frequqntly & slows down your pc..... SO I FIGURED OUT THE CURE : 1.GOTO "C:\Windows\System32" (default path, may change in different pc's). 2.In The SEARCH BOX type slui.exe. 3.when search results show up..... just DELETE The "slui.exe " File !!! . Thats It !!!! no more annoying popups OR black wallpaper!!!!
