I think spiders (or something) are biting me

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago, I started noticing that every few days, I had 1-2 new pinkish/redish bumps on my skin. Most of them are on my legs and arms. They are itchy, and when one bump goes away, you can clearly see one or two small raised pointy marks. They look pretty much like these (googled pic), and a lot of the times they appear in groups together, like 2-3 bumps somewhat close enough.

The first time I went to the clinic, they thought it was an allergic reaction to something. The cream they prescribed helped to make the current ones heal quicker, but I still had new ones appearing every other day. The second time, another doctor told me he was pretty sure that it's flees  I'm a clean freak, and I don't have pets, so I had a hard time believing this, but what do I know, he's the doctor. So, I followed his advice and cleaned everything. I completely cleaned my room, removing all accumulated dust, mopped floor, shoved my clothes in the dryer and set the temperature to high, changed my bed sheets and I sprayed so much raid I couldn't stay in the room during that time.

Actually, for the first days after that I didn't have any new ones. That was last week. Yesterday, I noticed I have new bumps again, again on my arms. So either I didn't kill whatever is biting me, or new ones appeared in my room in once the raid died down, or it was just a coincidence and I might have another problem like a bacterial infection. I doubt that it's it's an infection though, I don't have any other symptoms, it's really just these stupid bumps that must go away!

So, what should I do? Sleep with full clothes to confirm that it's some bugs doing this, or try to demand that I get a blood test or something from the doctor to see what's going on inside me?

Damn spiders...

Spiders wont bite you multiple times, and i doubt you have a whord of spiders crawing about your skin at night (CREEPY). Your general everyday spider usually will only bite you if it feels like it could be killed. Humans are far to big for a normal house spider to even think about taking on normally.

I'd say try changing your detergent, but I'd recommend that you see a specialist instead of a doctor. Rashes can be really tricky to diagnose the cause.

I have a serious doubt that spiders/bugs are doing that if you're sure your environment has been as maintained as you've stated, more than likely I suspect allergic reaction, or a bacterial/parasite of some sort is your problem. Could be something hormonal or something as well. I'd follow up with your doctor for a biopsy or blood test or some type of more testing if it continues..

I would say the following-

Ants, Bed Bugs, or an allergic action to the soap you are using.

Also what I would suggest is next time you wash your sheets run them through a second cycle without any detergent- also do not use any dryer sheets.

I'm thinking bed bugs. No, one does not have to be a slob or dirty pig to get them, especially if you live in an apartment building. Check for little brown stains near the seams of your mattress, they hide there. I know the most cleanest sterile people that got infested with them...

I had an ex-gf who kept a bed sheet that was basically full of holes (designed that way, woven), and it was earthly colors.

She had the same thing as you, tho sometimes the bumps would look worse.. until I one day discovered the creepiest huge spider ever seen in one of the gaps of the blanket and killed it, and the bumps stopped. Happened for more then a week.

I'm positive it's not bed bugs, because I looked hard for any living insects/bugs/etc. in my room, and there's no blood stains anywhere, and I live in a duplex, not an apartment that we clean like every weekend.

Either it's something that comes out at night and bites me for no reason, or it's a new allergic reaction that I developed (apparently people in their mid 20s can develop new allergies?), or I have a bacterial infection that for some reason targets mostly my arms and legs...

I just woke up an hour ago, and I have like 3 new spots  I think I should head to a different clinic, request a blood test or something, because I have no other symptoms telling me what it could possibly be.

First I'd try sleeping with clothes on, just to see if it is that something is biting you. When was the last time you changed your mattress? That would probably be the next area that I'd look, seeing as you've covered the in-between steps. Of course, only consider that if the clothing prevents you from being "bitten."

Or try sleeping on the coach for a couple of nights, if they stop then you know it's something to do with your sheets/bed/mattress/bedroom environment. Or can you sleep over somewhere else like a friends/parents?

Which one? Phil Jackson? Bill Belichik? :p

...couldn't help myself. :D

The idea of sleeping with clothes on is a good idea.

Yeah I might try and sleep in clothes for a few nights with the air conditioning set to full blast because it will be hot... Every week I'm trying different things to try and guess what it is isn't as easy as I thought :s Googling doesn't help too much, some people reported going through "random" skin problems for long periods before it goes away by itself.

go see a dermatologist. they will biopsy one of the bumps and let you know exactly what is causing it.

That would be great, but here typically we go through our family doctor or walk in clinic and they'll take an appointment if necessary. Sometimes it's as long as 2 months if what you have doesn't look cancerous or anything else serious.

Looks like bites from chiggers or dust mites to me.

I vote chiggers. The suckers are not visible to the naked eye and are pretty resistant to cleaning. Hikers and campers know them well. I would wash all your fabric with an extra rinse cycle in case it is an allergic chemical reaction and hang your clothes out to dry if possible. I would also move your mattress outside in direct sunlight as well.

Have you considered poison ivy as well? The bumps don't look like the posted picture but that is not your picture so just checking.

I second the dermatologist as well. You could chase this around for months or a dermatologist could probably tell you just from looking or at the most a simple test.

You mention you live in a duplex, Your "neighbors" could easily have introduced them into the building. Bedbugs are not easy to get rid of from what I understand, they are plaguing many many apartment blocks and hotels everywhere at the moment.
