Does the IE9 Beta Already Give Clues to Windows 8 ?

Recommended Posts

Ok so the IE9 Beta is out and we all have used it and realized just what a transformation IE has gone through from being utter garbage :p to a browser that is pretty cool :D So do you guys think IE9 is already giving out clues to what Windows 8, Midori, or whatever the next Windows will be ? I for one say a comeback of the major longhorn ideas that failed the first time, but this time will actually see the day of light. What do you guys think ?

The ability to pin sites to the taskbar like a normal app brings up some interesting scenarios. I am beginning to wonder if there will be a lot of thin client apps associated with Windows 8. I suspect what Microsoft wants to do is blur platforms a bit so the traditional idea of what is an application is rethought. I would describe what IE 9 brings to the table and possibly for future releases of Windows is evolution of ClickOnce Technology.

Of course, these are just my ideas. IE 9 really does not provide much clues apart from the possibility of a simpler Windows Explorer which I mentioned in my previous thread regarding this topic:

most of longhorn's technologies have made their way into windows already, just in more subtle ways.

A lot of the REALLY cool stuff from the Longhorn era has not been impemented yet. Go watch some of the old concept videos about data visualization etc... We are only starting to see those ideas come to fruition, and yes, I think IE9 gives clues as to where Microsoft is headed with the browser and Windows as a whole, they are really starting to pay attention to user experience in ways they never really did before.

I think the time is coming where the original longhorn concepts now can be implemented in reality, whereas back then, the hardware and such would not have been capable of so, now hardware is more advanced and will be able to handle it, perhaps the vision of longhorn someday soon might become reality :D :D :D

Of course, Microsoft will certainly add more features to the longhorn set, but their current trend of listening to the public seems to be really working. First with Windows 7, then Office 2010, and now IE9 and the Windows Live suites seem to be really the homerun :D

Also since this is a Windows 8 Beta thread, would it be wrong to hope of maybe a mention or dare I say an early alpha build of Windows 8 at PDC this year ? :D
