Tharp Daddy Posted January 23, 2011 Share Posted January 23, 2011 i'm gonna try a mage type toon. i hear they have really slow casting speed though. there some kind of warrior caster hybrid soul but i tend to regret rolling mdps in mmo's and it's one intersting soul in an archetype filled with stuff i don't want to do. but yeah i was getting 471kbps from teh launcher yesterday. and the whole logging in to patch thing is always annoying imho, just because i like to patch up the game and then pay for game time. it's actually one of the factors holding me back from resubbing to STO right now. Ask about the log in thing on the forums, the devs are actually really responsive to the community - and if others feel the way you do i imagine they would change it (unless they are planning on it anyway). treemonster Posted January 23, 2011 Share Posted January 23, 2011 yeah i might register on their forums at some point. i've been discussing the game for a few weeks on an aion fansite that made a special subforum for it. unfortunately half the people there think the game is perfect as is and should be launched tomorrow. Look on their Facebook page in the comments for a VIP key that works. It took about 10 minutes to get a beta invitation e-mail. (You can find it yourself easily. The great thing is that you don't need to choose a class based on their name, as the souls deviate from the connotation the names usually hold - like the fact that rogues can tank and play support. treemonster Posted January 25, 2011 Share Posted January 25, 2011 i'll be playing a limited amount of time this beta to specifically test how combat feels with the animations the game has. i think this is my biggest area of concern with the game because combat animations have a huge effect on combat and gameplay in that without good ones you are basically stuck staring at the UI to know what is actually happening in the game, and the videos i've watched of rift combat so far have basically been the player waving his arms at something until it dies.
