Can't Answer Calls

Recommended Posts

Right, I'll start with the obvious: Yes, I'm using Darky's Custom ROM. I think this is where the problem lies.

I managed to install Darky's 5.2 Gingerbread Edition ROM last night. Everything seemed to go fine, no problems.

About 20 minutes ago I got a phone call. My phone went black, vibrated and rang once, and I waited for the display to show me who was calling. Instead what happened was that the signal dropped, an error message appeared and disappeared too quickly to read it, and the phone stopped ringing. Checking my call log, nothing has changed. It doesn't tell me who was ringing me.

I tested this again by calling myself from the work phone. The exact same thing has happened. I basically can't receive phone calls. I can make phone calls though, as I tried calling a phone from my mobile and that seemed to work fine.

I've sent a text message to someone and that seems to have worked without a problem, but I don't know if I can receive text messages (for all I know the person I sent a message to hasn't replied, I'll ask them later when I see them).

*Sigh* have I ruined my phone? It would be a shame if I have, since I don't fancy shelling out full price for a replacement (I'll have no choice I guess, but still).

With all due respect, you would find much more help in the thread of Darky's Custom ROM (XDA?). I don't know what device you're using (since you never actually stated what you're using, but if I were to guess, it's a Galaxy S?) EDIT: this link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091

I don't mean to state the obvious, but whenever you're having an issue with actual calls being placed, you should nandroid, restore the most recent carrier stock ROM, and then proceed to update your PRL, your roaming settings, etc etc. Once done, Nandroid back (or in my preference, wipe and flash clean) and see if the problem has been fixed. The only reason I suggest reverting a stock carrier ROM for the moment is because I know that I cannot update my profile, PRL, or roaming settings on my Hero from a non-Sense based ROM (which means Cyanogen can't do it).

I don't think your phone is gone, not in the least, if anything, it might be a temporary carrier outage/issue in which your phone is just unable to properly connect/poll the cell towers for incoming calls.

Best of luck to you, and once again, without wishing to state the obvious, due to the amount of traffic and it being the origin of where these ROMs get posted, XDA is a far better choice than Neowin for custom ROM based support.

Heh, sorry should have pointed that out. You're right, it's a Galaxy S.

I'll take a look at the forum, although really you've alleviated my original fear by saying that you don't think the phone is completely gone. Now I can think again and get my thoughts in order.

Cheers.
