Application Uninstall Question

Recommended Posts

I have an HTC Evo running the latest firmware and stock Android 2.2, and it is not rooted. As with most phones now a days it came with a bunch of junk apps that the carrier (in my case, Sprint) preloaded on the phone. I've had the phone for a few months now, but I'm finally getting annoyed that there are all these extra apps on my phone that I would prefer not be there. When you go into the Application Management list you can see all these apps, but the button to uninstall them is grayed out.

Is there a way to delete them or is there an app that can delete them without having to root my phone?

I've got the HTC Desire and had the same issue, things like Peep and Stock which are about as useful as a chocolate fireguard to me. After a bit of searching I don't think these preloaded apps can't be removed, bit of a pain to be honest

What I have found out the apps aren't really installed, looks at the space used etc, however since installing Launcher Pro, there is a cool function which can hide unwanted apps, hopeful;y this will be a bit useful to you.

Good luck

Rooting and using something like Titanium backup will allow you to completely remove "bloat" just make sure you triple check to be sure it's ok to remove, or use a custom ROM

I have an application called SystemApp remover that can uninstall system applications, but you will need root and S-OFF to use it. Without root and S-OFF, it simply isn't possible, the EVO's NAND protection will prevent it.
