cyrl
I know the iOS 5 hasnt been announced yet but since one of the manger draw backs iOS has over android is the notifications system do you think that apple might update the notification system in iOS 5? Since some features such as hotspot feature etc. are added in the iOS latest beta. Will it be added? There isnt any rumor or anything I was just thinking. Since one of the main reason for me to jailbreak is to get the notifications displayed on the top bar. Its pretty easy. It would be great if apple could enable this by default. My wish list contains better notification system and something apple might add fresh. What is your wish list for iOS 5?
+dave164 Subscriber¹ Posted January 15, 2011 Subscriber¹ Share Posted January 15, 2011 I agree, notifications in iOS really bug me. It's just so intrusive. WP7 and Android both have great approaches.

It seems like with each major release Apple addresses the one biggest thing that everyone really wants. With 2.0 they added the native SDK, with 3.0 they added copy and paste, with 4.0 they added multitasking. This year the biggest thing that people seem to want out of the OS is a better notification system and it's long overdue. This will probably be the big feature in iOS 5. Jan Veteran Posted January 15, 2011 Veteran Share Posted January 15, 2011 Yes - iOS 5 will probably have notifications, Apple recently has been adding many features people want (Multitasking, Flash, Folders & Copy + Paste), so this will probably be the next one. cyrl
I agree, notifications in iOS really bug me. It's just so intrusive. WP7 and Android both have great approaches. I know if you miss it thats it you dont get another chance to seeing the notification. Specially android the ability to pull down the top bar to view the notifications is genius.! Didnt apple hire the notifcation guy from WebOS team (or something like that?) so it may be possible of an all new system. I could remember seeing such thing a while ago but who knows apple. Since they are so secretive!! That is usually the schedule for them. I think since most of the people arent happy with the notifications system this could be next in the line. Well lets hope so! But I highly doubt if a newly designed iphone will come out. It will be another 4GS or something just like 3GS.

Maybe he meant the flash for the camera?:shifty: I wonder if apple would enable those hand gestures in iOS 4.3 beta iPad version on the iphones and ipod touches. But since their screen is pretty small well

amon91
Make the lock screen more useful by letting apps add widgets and mini-utilities, because let's be honest, a clock just doesn't cut it. Apple should know how to make that seamless enough.
instant.human
Annoyingly the battery life needs fixing. iOS 4.x sucks out the life of batteries much quicker than iOS 3.x Not on my iPhone 4... I don't need much fixed... Maybe the lockscreen could provide some more information but please, no widgets... They would make a mess. Flash support? I hope not... New notification system? HELL yeah. But other than that? I am pretty statisfied. :)
Simon Veteran Posted January 15, 2011 Veteran Share Posted January 15, 2011 On the iPad, widgets are an absolute must. The home screens look foolish atm, and the lock screen is being totally wasted. Otherwise, notifications are definitely in need of a change, on both iPhone and iPad. On the phone, I wouldn't really like to see widgets, but some other way to view data would be nice (like live tiles on Windows Phone 7, but something more Apple-y). Widgets on a phone, I find, take up too much space to be useful.
Quattrone
The only wish I would like to see its the ability to download documents and videos and able to watch it offline. I know that there are already apps that can do this, but it will be useful if this is a feature of iOS by default.

You can do that with PDF files currently if you have an app installed that registers itself as a pdf reader. If they added the same thing to Safari for all files types that would be nice.
