On Google Chrome 8.0.552.237, Google uses https://encrypted.google.com for the search site. This wasnt there yesterday. Oh and the page says Google beta with SSL and a lock above the word Google. Anyone else notice this? And no it occurs whether I'm logged in to my account or not.

Not by default, but I can use encrypted.google.com to force it to (I could also change the default to it if I wanted).

This has been around for a while, going to https://encrypted.google.com/ will encrypt your searches. That isn't default here as far as I can tell.

Obviously Google is not pushing the site. Appears to be US and UK only. Its the default now though wasnt in the past. Only on Google Chrome it seems.

I wonder why some are seeing it in the US and
UK though. No setting I can find.

Yes you can access the US version of the SSL site, but not one for the UK.

Not by default (and not available in my country yet, not that I care too much).
