A new report from International Data Group (IDG) Entertainment surveys top game industry CEOs for a preview of where the industry is headed as 2004 reaches a close and we prepare for 2005 and beyond. The primary theme, according to the report, is that the video game market should see strong performance through the final quarter of 2004 if Microsoft and Sony cut hardware prices, as many analysts hope.

Of course, as any gaming enthusiast knows, the final part of this year is a powerhouse in terms of software. Packed right into the remaining months of 2004 are games like Halo 2, Half-Life 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Fable, DOOM 3, Metal Gear Solid 3, EA's latest sports offerings, and The Sims 2. And that's just to name a few. Executives surveyed expect, unsurprisingly, that the industry will see healthy numbers with such a strong software line-up.
