IEBLOG: In the first four days over three million of you have already downloaded the final release. Thank you! (If you’re not one of those three million, you can get it here.)
We expect the numbers to continue to climb steadily until we start distributing via Automatic Updates in a few weeks. Clearly, we expect IE7 adoption to really take off then. If you haven’t tested your website with IE7 yet, please use the tools Scott posted about a few weeks ago to help you prepare.
With the final release, we got a chance to do some fun tech community activities. For instance, on the night of the launch, we hosted a dinner in San Francisco for about twenty leaders in the local blogging community. Afterwards, Jeremiah Owyang posted his thoughts and Thomas Hawk put up a great set of photos. We also finally let our product managers do some real marketing. We have the first IE radio spot that I can remember us doing, and we created some mobile billboards that cruised through 10 major U.S. cities. I’ve included a few photos below.

The Microsoft Internet Explorer Team sent the Mozilla team a cake for the release of Firefox 2!

A big thanks to Redmond, Washington!
P.S.: No, it was not poisoned

its not supposed to make sense

Thats you. Personally for me and my needs IE 7 beats in every way, shape and form FF 2.
I remember when Gator first came out a lot of people installed it as it was useful and then look what happened. Im using both IE7 and FF2 at the moment the Spell Check in FF2 is about the only "Win" feature at the moment I actually like the look and feel of IE7 and after spending 20 minutes getting FF2 away from the dreary grey scheme with the dreary grey tab bar I can say that if it weren't for the Spell Check I wouldn't be using it.

-Don't call other people 'idiot'
-Don't say browsers suck (just like that). At least give reasons.

...yawwwwnnnn...
On the next Patch Tuesday I would imagine that Automatic Updates will bring more than 800,000 new downloads a day.
Bad, bad, bad troll.
Ha, Ha, You win...
I suggest you come out of your TINY house and have a look. There is more to this world than America...... A lot of organisations around the world are still using Windows 2000.... FYI
The world is in a sad, sad state.
Anyway, reasonable people will upgrade - to better
The world is in a sad, sad state.
Meh, there's millions of deluded Firefox users who should be using Opera - but, somehow, I manage to keep on keeping on..
The world is in a sad, sad state.
Yet oh so many others that are blind and cant see that IE7 is better.
There is 2 sides to the coin.
I use Firefox on a regular basis but still felt like I should've upgraded IE7 for the rare times I use it.
Nah, seriously, it's a nice gesture. It's Mozilla's turn to send them something for IE 8, I guess.
Technically they DO something.
Advertisement generates revenue, which in turn makes the economy go.
I hate advertisement, but they don't necessarily do nothing. The guys driving them are paid, and this gives them a job.
Ff and Opera users can't believe it,now people have less reasons to switch to any of these, ehem and everyone knows that MS is playing softly, otherwise opera neither firefox would exist by now
You really don't see the point of competition, do you? :s
I see that much more often when people speak about linux/firefox. So when once in a year someone says this about IE7 i tell you people: "just shut up".
So you are EU dog, aren't you? If people don't buy RealPlayer it's uncompetitive?
You are saying that better products shouldn't win?
Ff and Opera users can't believe it,now people have less reasons to switch to any of these
FF and Opera users can't believe it? I used Opera for roughly a year nonstop, and this is all for the better. Two new browser updates to tinker around with.
Actually IE7 wouldn't exist in its current form without these other two browsers giving MS a small kick in the ass. Maybe you should be grateful for that, fellow victim of blind fanboyism.
For me, I'm grateful that at least the first browser that I launch on a brand new PC will be quite decent.
Agreed! Yet another person who isn't a biased moron!
And for those who say "Firefox/Linux. Try it, it's good. My friends use it and they are happy. If you don't want to switch that just means you don't know how great it is or you are just afraid of changes! "
The answer is: "Being homosexual. Try it, it's good. Some of my friends are homo and they are happy. If you don't want to switch that just means you don't know how great it is or you are just afraid of changes! "

LOL!! Somewhat irrevalent but hilarious!
Nothing wrong with being homosexual, unless you're one of those types of people..
Nothing wrong with IE7 or Firefox, unless you're one of those types of people..
What I'm concerned about is standards compliance.
What I'm concerned about is standards compliance.
I personally could give a **** about standards compliance
Well, a lot of other people do, specifically developers.
You don't have to care, but a lot of other people do.
Actually, it 'does mean jack', sorry.
That was my main motive.
Windows Live, maybe, but not something as common as IE.
Windows Live, maybe, but not something as common as IE.
why not? firefox has thier advertising and they even have gatherings for people that apparently like a browser enough to go to a public meeting with facepaint and clothing. Its very sad i know but theres people out there that actually enjoy it lol
Yup, that's true. I got it but use Firefox on a regular basis.
Wrong.
You don't have to.
* WinXP updates without help of IE.
* Windows comes with IE. Again you don't need to download IE7 to get updates.
And don't forget that very few people know about IE7. And it is not on WindowsUpdate yet. So these 3 mils are people whow KNEW that IE7 shipped and DOWNLOADED it. I think these stats are rather preciese.
Those poor 7 mil will be screaming as soon as the latest exploit for IE7 ( and yes there's already at least one) messe up their PCs
I don't think so. I only see Firefox users screaming and crying. IE users at most have "don't worry, be happy" attitude

I mean people were OK with Firefox crop circles and the weather balloon, but now they cry foul over three million people "being lied to" about IE7 with these mobile ads.
Heh. Go figure.
Still not as good as Opera. Which is where I'm typing from. And now having checked the Firefox 2.0 out, looks like it's stolen the close boxes from Opera tabs as well. The option of reopening the tabs where I left off is buggy. And neither the IE or Firefox seem to duplicate the option of forwarding like Opera does. That's my fav feature with mucking thru web galleries.
But congratz on the downloads, many a more to come.
Also it was a very nice thing to send the cake
Im not a computer afficinado, but ill tell u why i used ff over ie6, because it was FAST, RELIABLE and didnt have a lot of security problems (popups and spyware). Problem with FF is u use it for a while and it bloats... i mean REALLY BLOATS, i remember once having 5 tabs open and it was taking up 150Mb of RAM!
I downloaded ie7, it runs fast, reliable, security seems to be good, AND it had great tab access right "out of the box" so to speak. Firefox is gone off my system now. I have nothing against firefox, but the problems and reasons i wasnt running ie are now resolved. So why not use the browser that was built by my OS's creator?
Plus, one thing is sure. Probably out of the zillions of millions that downloaded firefox, only around 80 million use it. With IE7, every single XP SP2 will have it soon it or later, but chances are that those who already use another browser, will just install it and never use it.
I think IE7 is a great browser, yes, but there are a lot of things that still need to be improved (e.g. GUI and rendering-wise) before I can use it as my daily tool. It sure as hell is better than IE6, but Firefox fits my needs just fine. If people have problems with that, then they need to go outside more often.
But at least Microsoft was gracious enough to send a cake!!!
