Apple, Cisco reach agreement on iPhone name

Thank you to Tech_Dude_5000 for submitting this to our front page.

It seems Apple Incorporated has successfully evaded a particularly problematic trademark issue with network equipment maker Cisco Systems Incorporated. Cisco sued Apple for trademark infringement in January after Apple unveiled its long-awaited multimedia phone and used the iPhone trademark, which Cisco obtained by acquiring Infogear (previous owner and user of the trademark) in 2000. Linksys, a division of Cisco, had been selling wireless products with the iPhone name since early last year. In a joint statement, Cisco and Apple have announced an agreement that allows both companies to use the "iPhone" name internationally, without any legal action from either side. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. In addition, Cisco and Apple will explore opportunities to work together in the areas of security, as well as consumer and institutional communications.
