ASUS announces plans to split company and brand

AsusTek Computer Incorported has announced its intention to split in order to maximize competitive performance and minimize potential conflicts of interest. As things currently stand, it's possible for a company that competes with the AsusTek brand to actually contract with AsusTek to build equipment, and several customers have expressed unhappiness over this arrangement. The three separate corporate holdings, set to debut by January of 2009, are to be structured as follows:

  • AsusTek, still branded as Asus, will focus on contract manufacturing, with the stated goal of becoming the world's top manufacturing provider (revenue share: ~NT$250 billion)
  • Unihan Technology Corporation will take on the PC-related manufacturing segment (~NT$150 billion)
  • Pegatron Technology Corporation will be responsible for the casing, module, and non-PC contract manufacturing segment (~NT$300-350 billion)
