I hope they go back to the old method of download of downloading the parts you want and not the whole thing and hope it less bloated and less of a hog
#1.1 DeMo_BR on 01 Sep 2007 - 21:39
I agree, and I hope it doesn't screw up CDs recorded from MP3s again.

im still using Nero6 (which i think is pretty much the last good version of nero)

plus Nero7 Removed features that 6 had like the "Audio+Data" cd option in nero express.

I'm still using version 6 also. I can't even begin to imagine how huge this bloated POS could get to be.

Man! I might have nightmares tonight dreaming of that!!

"Nero 8 Ultra Edition" also known as "Nero 8 Extra-Bloaty With Even More Pointless Features Hardly Anyone Wants Edition".
All I ever use in Nero 7 is the Nero Burning Rom application and occasionally Nero Vision Express for making my own DVDs. The rest is just useless tat.

Also I wish Ahead would wise up and realise that forcing users who want to stay up to date into downloading a 100mb+ file, and essentially reinstalling Nero each time a minor update is released, is a pain in the ass.

thanks!

Ashampoo burning studio is good.

Deep burner (http://www.deepburner.com/) is pretty good. They have a great free version that can be run from a USB drive - It does all the basics and burns CD/DVD ISOs.

For audio CD burning only, you can't beat Feurio!

I'll pimp Bilderman too...same site. It's a nice and easy screenshot app.

i agree with you... "Burrrn" is a nice audio cd app ... it's great for people who mainly just burn audio cd's as it's lightweight and just works ... recommended burning speed for audio is 16x (acording to club.cdfreaks.com forums)
#3.7 Tuffgong4 on 02 Sep 2007 - 04:51
can any of these name the songs so that Car Cd players can output the song that is playing on the screen like nero?

I haven't found one that can do that like nero can yet...

If so please let me know because nero is just not worth it these days.

Another vote for Infrarecorder here, 2.5mb download and free. Does everything burning rom does without the bloat.
#3.9 th3rEsa on 02 Sep 2007 - 09:38
InfraRecorder is even much more bloated than my favorite...

Ever tried CD/DVD Burning?

Thsnka
very nice

They should offer Nero Burning Rom and the Ultra edition suite separately.
#5 FluidDruid on 01 Sep 2007 - 23:52
It is possible to find just the Nero Burning Rom Application sans bloat:

http://uk.theinquirer.net/?article=37873 has more information, and google should be able to point you in the direction of some mirrors.
#6 thollian on 02 Sep 2007 - 00:02
any screenshots?

Be afraid. Be very afraid.
#8 Powerless on 02 Sep 2007 - 00:33
1.5 GB disc space for a typical installation of all components

Big stuff.

Nero 8 - Now with 33% more bloat!

Really, I got sick and tired of Nero back when version 7 was released. Now days, I just use ImgBurn for all my burning needs.
#9.1 ThaCrip on 02 Sep 2007 - 03:07
i agree with you pretty strongly here as ImgBurn is the perfect app for burning image files... but i still use nero6 for regular data dvd's etc.

You can build data disks with the newer versions of ImgBurn. It's not only for images. I don't use Nero at all these days.

your right... it's just the way it's made is a little awkward thats why i dont like it in "build" mode. although technically your right it can burn standard data.... main thing i dont like is it's "browse for a file" and "browse for a folder" adding separately ... they need to have it more like nero express where u can just ADD files (which allows u do to folders/files all in one command instead of separate like it is in ImgBurn... if they could fix that it would be perfect pretty much.
#10 +BeLGaRaTh on 02 Sep 2007 - 02:03
Maybe they should team up with rapture/bioshock, as with all that water they can really float their bloat ...
#11 xan K on 02 Sep 2007 - 02:16
I totally agree! Nero should go back to the basics and listen to their customers. WE DON'T WANT BLOATWARE!
#12 nunjabusiness on 02 Sep 2007 - 02:57
IMGburn roxxx!
#13 DaViD_BRaNDoN on 02 Sep 2007 - 03:41
Nero = Norton
#14 IntelliMoo on 02 Sep 2007 - 04:04
Well at least Nero doesn't install unstable driver(s) like Roxio always did. lol
(1 reply) #15 vraev on 02 Sep 2007 - 06:08
get ashampoo burning studio. The best burning application. Simple and to the point.
#15.1 ThaCrip on 02 Sep 2007 - 08:39
im sure thats a solid program but it costs money.

so my recommendations for "free" alternatives are IMGBurn for Image burning/data discs and Burrrn for Audio CD's (recommended burning speed for audio cd's is generally 16x according to club.cdfreaks.com) ... and for dvd's in general 8x is recommended.

and also stick with quality discs like Verbatim/Taiyo Yuden.

do this and u likely to never have problems.
(1 reply) #16 letbugin on 02 Sep 2007 - 06:08
check out system reqs:

1.5 GB disc space for a typical installation of all components
Up to 9 GB available hard disc space for DVD images and temporary DVD files
#16.1 ThaCrip on 02 Sep 2007 - 07:10
for christ sake! lol

1.5GB for a damn burning program! lol

p.s. i just think nero (ahead software) wants to keep pushing new products on people so they can make more money instead of fine tuning Nero 6 and keep tweaking it for better speed/less bugs cause lately it seems like they make WAY to many "new versions" of nero... cause Nero 7 aint even been out that long and they already talking about a new version AGAIN. wtf lol
#17 JohnBfromMemphis on 02 Sep 2007 - 07:18
Ironically enough, upgrading to Nero 7 gives you Nero ProductSetup.. a small program that lets you download nero updates over the internet then installs them for you. Ha! <edit> just laughing at the irony..</edit>
#18 avidracer on 02 Sep 2007 - 08:28
totally agree with all the comments above. last good nero was ver 6. i moved to CD Burner XP Pro, its closed source freeware. its pretty good AFAIK.

Vista, Nero 8, Norton 2008..

All things bloated come in pretty packages.
#20 eilegz on 02 Sep 2007 - 21:25
waiting for nero 8 micro version.
#21 hjimmy on 03 Sep 2007 - 01:15
Unicode Support?
Anybody know if they finally spend like $100M to solve this issue yet?
#22 Faisal Islam on 03 Sep 2007 - 04:14
Best Burning software. Most of the burning software crash* during Burning. But it never.

*I have this bad experience with Ashampoo, Winamp, JetAudio, Windows Media Player, Windows DVD Burner & Roxio!
#23 Jeremy of Many on 03 Sep 2007 - 12:17
Nero Lite Micro for me.
#24 b@nned on 05 Sep 2007 - 13:53
IMGBurn and Burrrn FTW
