Hi guys! I know theres a bunch of people out there suffering the same problem as me after upgrading to DX9 under Windows XP: Windows Messenger goes screwy! Well, I've since figured out a temporary solution until Microsoft fixes the problem, so I thought I'd share!

Problem:

After upgrading to DX9, Windows Messenger takes a while to load and/or will intermittently freeze every 30 seconds or so for a few seconds before returning back to normal.

[neoquote=#7.0 by FuseWerx]I suspect that UPnP is part of DirectPlay now, and Messenger uses UPnP to tell the firewall what ports to open if memory serves.[/neoquote] Thats exactly it. There is a conflict between UPnP trying to open its ports with the ICF Service. This hangs whilst messenger creates log entries which then causes Windows Messenger to hang. You could just open the ports it wants?

[neoquote=#8.0 by CheeseCow]OMG. They can't even get their own software to get along. It is like they didn't test it on their own systems before releasing. [/neoquote] lmao! funniest thing i've heard today.
