$499 Surface now back in stock (in the USA)

Missed out on a Surface the first time around? Well if you live in the United States, all models are now in stock, including the popular 32 GB model without a Touch Cover. Stock of the cheapest Surface model has been unavailable for some time after quickly selling out following the release last month, but the good news is that it's back in time for the holiday season.

In all other regions the 32 GB Cover-less model is still unavailable, with everywhere but the UK stocking the other models that include the Touch Cover; however we expect that to change soon as shipments return to normal and more stock becomes available.

If you haven't as yet purchased a Surface and you don't have a local Microsoft Store, now is the time to get in on the Surface RT action. If you are on the fence about purchasing the tablet, you can always read our review or go on a road trip to a location showing it off, or simply bite the bullet blind and become an early adopter.

I choose a tablet with a fast web browser. Wait that is not Surface with Windows RT (previous Neowin article on benchmarking confirmed this).

RT wins in some benchmarks and loses in others. The performance of IE10 is fantastic for a tablet and i'm sure they will improve it with tweaks here and there.. What type of browsing / javascript stuff do you do where one benchmark makes or breaks the tablet? Gmail works, Flash Player works, Outlook.com is fast, Office online is fast, Google docs is fast, a lot of javascript heavy sites are fast.. just try one out before you continually beat this dead horse for all the wrong reasons.

To be honest, all browsers are so fast that you won't even notice/care for the speed differences. IE10 certainly meets web standards, which is what average web users need.

I doubt there will be any real problem getting any RT device from now on...the more people learn about RT, the less they want it. Pro is different story.

I may just get the Samsung ativ... but it seems that the surface pro is better in specs... but no data network... usb will quickly solve that though... January not too far. But my eyes likes the Samsung ativ smart pc pro too.

ATIV Smart PC Pro has pretty much the same specs as the surface pro and a better laptop mode
