A Facebook uploaded photo of cash leads to house robbery

We’ve seen pictures of people taking pictures of criminal activities and upload them on Twitter, and get arrested as a result, but here’s a story about Facebook which resulted in criminal activity being inflicted to the user.

A 17-year-old girl in Australia had been counting her grandmother’s savings and decided to upload a picture of all the money piled up. Although we haven't seen the picture, we assume the picture was something along the lines of what a rapper would post to show-off exactly how to “make it rain on them hoes”, but as a result of bad judgement the girl’s house was broken into and robbed.

The girl has her address saved on her Facebook profile — so these burglars most-likely would have known who she was. The photo was uploaded and shared on the girl’s Facebook account around 4PM local time on Thursday, and at about 11:30PM the same day, a pair of masked men rifled through the girl’s family's home demanding the money they had seen on the Facebook page. The money wasn't at the address at this time, but the thieves got off with some valuables and a small sum of cash.

Despite no one being hurt, let this be a lesson to people sharing pictures of anything illegal or valuable that could result in any malicious criminal activities. The fact is: People seem to forget that the information that Facebook takes from you is what you give, or allow others to see.

and u wounder why we have warring on everything -coffee may be hot -ect ect without dumb people the world would go boom we wouldn't know whats hot what we can and cant drink or if my toy can a kid choke on it .. thank the world for all the dumb people who did it first and won 100000 dollers so we won't

also don't tell everybody on FB your about to go on holiday and for how long you'll be gone as it's a good bet the all your belongings will have gone on an completely different holiday without tell you where they were going

WTF - perfect example of how wasteful Facebook is and how it manipulates even the lives of common criminals. While I'm glad to see them arrested it does shine light on to this problem of what Facebook has done to people.

I'm way too smart for such things... All my saving ( all £ 50,000 worth ) is located at my house in Birmingham ( by the way, the next door bakery's pasties are to die for! ), in my room, under the bed, locked inside a suitcase with a four digit combo ( 1234, because I keep forgetting the other combinations I set! ).

Let's see these dumb thieves get to that!!!

facebook users = low IQ / simple *

Nice stereotype. Totally wrong, but hey don't let me try and shake your bigotry.

My low IQ tricked me into thinking you had created a mathematical equation where "low IQ" is divided by "simple" and multiplied by a missing value

You forgot Low IQ being equal to Facebook users.

you're not supposed to have your address publicly listed and you're supposed to clear the EXIF GPS info! there's a little option that easy to find on android phones to enable/disable GPS co-ords on the photo.... if you can use FB you can surely use that.

I remember reading somewhere that large 'social sites' (it named facebook and some others) automatically purge ALL exif data once uploaded.

I'm not writing news articles. Apology accepted. Thanks for coming out.

Well yes, it's pretty silly what some people put on Facebook, but you've got to love how the mentality is that she is the one in the wrong for posting the picture, not the thieves for breaking into their house...

We all know thievery is wrong, but we also know it will always be there. Of course she is in the wrong.
Is it not stupid to leave your laptop on the seat of your car in plain view?
If someone did, and got it stolen they would have little sympathy.
Not much difference in this case. Sad that it's the society we live in but it just is.

It's pretty ignorant to think that there is no case where a victim is just as guilty as the perpetrator. Now, what one did is illegal, the other was just plain stupid. However, they are both just as guilty of causing the incident.

It all comes back to the old argument of whether or not you can 'ask' for something bad to happen to you. Of course you can. And this girl did just that.

Quick, someone attach generators to her grandma's feet. Initial torque will kick the Earth out of its orbit and we'll all be saved.

I believe Phouchg is implying the grandmother is dead and spinning in her grave. I don't know how generating energy from this has any effect on the Earth's orbit or what it is we'll be saved from. *shrugs*

he's talking about capturing the energy that her grandmother will produce as she thrusts her foot up her granddaughters backside for being so stupid

Well, in this case the police shouldn't have a hard time finding suspects. I'm sure the girl couldn't have /that/ many friends on Facebook.
