A new 'God of War' game is finally coming to the PlayStation

God of War is a critically acclaimed flagship series for Sony's platforms with titles across all PlayStation consoles with the exception of the original PlayStation. The series is based loosely on Greek mythology in which players assume the role of the God of War, Kratos. At its E3 briefing today, Sony has finally unveiled a new AAA title for its popular series.

The lengthy 10-minute trailer shows off Kratos, and what appears to be his son, take down monsters with the familiar hack-and-slash style of gameplay. While Sony hasn't officially revealed if the game is a sequel or a reboot, it's likely to be a prequel due to the trailer emphasizing Kratos' relation with his son, which is significant because the conflicted protagonist unknowingly killed his family before the original God of War.

The trailer showcased a third-person perspective with melee-based combat. However, surprisingly, violence and gore didn't seem to be the focus in this gameplay trailer. With that being said, little is known about the game itself, and we'll learn more when the title launches soon. A specific release window and console availability for the new God of War is yet to be announced.
