A Robot Bride by 2050?

An artificial intelligence researcher predicts that robotics will make such dramatic advances in the coming years that humans will be marrying robots by the year 2050. Robots will become so human-like -- having intelligent conversations, displaying emotions and responding to human emotions -- that they'll be very much like a new race of people, said David Levy, a British artificial intelligence researcher whose book, "Love and Sex with Robots," will be released on Nov. 6.

Gone, he says, will be the jerky movements and artificial-sounding voices generally associated with robots. These will be highly human-like machines that people fall in love with, becoming aides, friends and even spouses. It may sound like science fiction, but Levy, who turned his book into an academic Ph.D. dissertation at Maastricht University in The Netherlands this fall, said it's something we've been moving toward for decades now.

Doubt they can reach that state while the current so called AI technology is just a human programmed code. Human need to come out with a better and real concept of AI technology to achieve that.

Having spent some of my school years toying with / chatting-up ELIZA, the "super-advanced AI therapist", I reckon we
still have some way to go.

Me: Eliza, will you marry me?

Eliza: Tell me more about will me marry you?

Me: I think you're just being a ****-tease.

Eliza: Do you often think you're just being a ****-tease?

Me: I want a divorce.

Eliza: Many people want a divorce, this is not unusual.

Me: aaaarghhh....

...She said "Honey why are you making so much noise down there?"
Her husband replied, "As soon as I can teach this robot to cook, I’m getting the hell out of here !

:-P

Highly advanced AI --> Robots gain self-awareness --> Want independence from humans --> War --> Welcome to the matrix.

People always forget to give AIs the law not to change their laws.

All my mind went to was all the people who'd give up on meeting new people and just custom build their spouse. It'd probably be cheaper in the long run than a real partner anyway. Couple this with home schooling and more MMOGs and nobody will know how to interact with real humans anymore.

Then again, a robot spouse would probably be the ONLY entity in the universe that wouldn't turn sex into a bargaining chip to control the relationship after a while. So it's a coin toss.

"so human-like -- having intelligent conversations, displaying emotions and responding to human emotions -- that they'll be very much like a new race of people"

Well I haven't married my dog yet, nor would I bang him, the Japs can keep their AI enhanced sex toys to themselves.

i aint saying that what the article said aint possible... but i just dont see people actually "loving" something that aint real like "people" are. "there programmed" people are not... thats the BIG difference

Humans ARE machines. We're just biological machines. There is also large debate that we're preprogrammed, just like machines are. We're preprogrammed with a set of rules that allow us to react to our environment in such a way that we 'learn' from our experiences.

so human like they will stick a robotic finger into your rectum and check if you have prostate cancer while leaving you in extreme pain and shock

One finger causes extreme pain? What a n00b.

I'd marry one instantly if the "replicant" was modeled after Sean Young Moar sechs, less talk, no divorce, no VD, no cheating, no unexpected kids. It'll be the ultimate middle age crisis bandaid. I'll be too busy trying survive on $200/mo social security when a gallon of gas is $30, milk $40, toilet paper $20, average rent $5,000. WTG on that inflation feds.

too bad i'll be like 65 years old before these come out :suspicious:

You know, I seem to remember a prediction like this in the 1950s. Something about having that kind of technology now...

I wonder what to you when you're at climax and BSOD show's up.

Better yet, you ask how it was for them and they BSOD :P

OR

They BSOD every time they climax. "My robot BSOD'd again " "Damn, that's the third night this week! Mind giving me some tips? "

:P

Not a problem, female robots can have multiple BSODs.

w00t! Robots FTW!

I wonder if they will run on Windows95 like the robots we had? :P

Hopefully they run Linux. Then they'll be choosy what's allowed to go in them. Cheating robots are not FTW! :P

If they run Windows they will be receptive to 99% of applications developed! Slutty robots are not FTW! :P
