Acronis is great but it needed the latest updates as images sometimes could not be opened using the backup explorer if they were burnt to dvd or cd

Now who in their right mind would want to do a bit copy. I have a 500GB drtive with 12 gigs in use. Acronios completes the job in 45 minutes, where as a bit copy on .nix, well you might want to go grab several cups of coffee to keep you awake.

Not everyone uses Linux. I love Acronis True Image Home Edition. It has saved me several times.

Save your money.

If you have two hard drives and a linux live cd all you have to do is issue the following command

dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb

This will do a bit for bit copy of the first drive onto the second drive.

You can even compress the image as well as encrypt them.

For example:

dd if=/dev/sda |gzip -9|gpg --symmetric -a|dd of=/dev/sdb
