Actually something about this program really annoyed me.

I couldnt install it in Safe Mode. Surely it makes more sense to be able to use this in Safe Mode. Don't they realise what Spyware does? It slows your PC down!

Plus it'd be more effective at removing adware if its disabled...

I just let the damn thing do a 'full scan' for like 30+ hours and it never finished. I eventually just closed it because I wanted to use my computer...

Sorry solardog...............your right. Why should you have to disable a service. There is no reason for Lavasoft to install a backround service for a free antispyware program. No other program I use does that unless you want real time protection. But you dont need real time spyware protection in my eyes. Just update and scan once a week.

Actually AVG AS for one does. Scanning/cleaning has been 'outsourced' to a SYSTEM service, because it runs with greater privileges than normal USER services and thus can clean stuff better. In this app too the actual service guard.exe remains running in the background even when using free version.

yes but gaurd.exe only uses like 4k.

Although it's not as good as the older version, it's still a pretty good application.

I used it recently and it fixed some problems on the system I put it on. .. It was really slow at scanning and fixing (It removed one cookie per second... and there were 600+), but it found things.

Yeah, 2007 has definitely been a huge downgrade to this program. It's 5-10x slower, uglier, digs into services, etc etc.

And it took them so long to make a crappy update too. What a waste of time that was.

I stopped using this when they decided to plant it in Services. The main reason I always used the freeware version was because I didnt need or want Adwatch running all the time...now you have no choice. There is no need for this type of program anymore anyways, IMO. Proper cookie settings and a good host type program/file locks me down just fine. I get ZERO cookies I dont want and have not had even a hint of any type of spyware in at least 2 years.

You can just disable the service. Put it to manual.

I know, but Id rather avoid the program all together now. I mean, its just completely unnecessary now....for me. Don't get me wrong, Ad-aware was one of the very first things I added to a fresh install for years, but now there is just absolutely no reason for it...IMO.

According to the changelog, the service takes up less memory now. But that still doesnt mean it should leave it on after when the program has closed. Does nothing in the free version except waste memory.
