Age of Empires Online adds Persians on Tuesday

Microsoft's free-to-play online RTS game Age of Empires Online will be adding its first new civilization pack since the game was officially launched last August. The company has announced that the Persian Pro civilization will be made available to purchase on Tuesday, October 18. Pricing for the new Pro Civ pack should be $19.99. The pack will add a number of new units to the game including the Immortals, mounted Persian Archers, and special attack elephants. There will be new single player content added with the new Persian civilization along with player vs player content that will allow users to put the Persians into battle with the previously released Greek and Egyptian civs.

Microsoft has also announced that a new Age of Empires Online app is now available to download for Windows Phone 7 owners. The app will let players of the game view recipes and stats for all of the game's craft items. It also has a materials calculator that lets players see which items you can build in the game with the materials that the player owns. Finally it lets players view the most popular craft items made by other community members and vote on their favorites.

Age of Empires Online, developed by Gas Powered Games, was Microsoft's first PC exclusive game it has released in several years and its first entry in the growing free-to-play PC game genre. So far there's no word on how many players the game has signed up.

Graphics are too cartoony. C'mon MS bring back Ensemble and do an offline AOE 4 in DirectX 11.

Age of Empires Online WAS practically made by Ensemble as most of the employees stuck together to form Robot Entertainment who, of course, developed AOE:O.

I like the graphics of AOE:O but making a new AOE game with all the eye candy we have today would be epic.

I miss the good ol' days of playing AOE against friends.

I know but online doesn't give me a secure enough feeling to play. Secure as in they can take it any time they want or they think it's enough. You can't "own" it. Plus, the possibilities achieved in DX11 would be simply mind-blowing for something as exciting and full of potential as Age of Empires. I still prefer and play Age of Kings: The Conquerors and of course AOE III against comp AI and multiplayer against friends using DirectPlay. Never get tired of them. AOE was a special creation. Too bad MS killed it.

Yeah this "iteration" just does not cut it for me. Nothing is as fun as killing 8 hours on Hard difficulty against 7 other CPU teams on a custom made free-to-download map...plus i loved modding the INI file so you can have a pop cap over 200 to create massive wars and then watch the lag take over *lol*

I seriously wouldnt bother with this game, it is constantly crashing ive paid good money for a game thats seriously broke and has many bugs and issues. I have then contacted support on the forums and been told to "check for updates" which i have done for over a week and guess what the same issues are stll there because they say its not a coding problem even though this issue arose after a patch! Also mny people have been leaving the game and there is like 50people on a server if that.

I repeat DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS GAME!
