All Blackberry Playbooks now just $299 - for now

Research in Motion is still trying to get people to purchase its Blackberry Playbook tablets. The company's latest scheme is interesting; the RIM web site store now has a sale on all versions of its Playbooks. From now until February 4, you can get any version you want for $299. Yep, that means the price is the same if you buy the 16 GB version, the 32 GB version or even the big 64 GB version.

This is an interesting strategy but it's just the most recent way that RIM has tried to sell off the Playbook. In November, the company said that the 16 GB version would be on sale for a "limited time" for just $199. The holiday sale was apparently good enough that Best Buy actually managed to sell out of the tablets, at least for a while.

Selling all of the versions of the Playbook, regardless of its storage size, for $299 may mean that RIM might be trying to get rid of some of the inventory for the higher end versions of the tablet. In any case, a tablet with 64 GB of storage for just $299 is a pretty good deal and some people will likely jump on it.

If it were $99 I would buy it today. 1GB of ram, 16GB or storage, microSD slot, HDMI out. Lots of stuff makes it superior to the Kindle Fire (for instance).

The hardware and build quality is much better than 95% of andriod tablets out there and the browser with flash is snappy. Its just the os and apps that make it second rate

grabbed one for my GF (who has a BB 9700) and she loves it. She carries it in her purse and can whip it out any time.. the Browser on the thing is unreal and it seems like apps are slowly starting to trickle in though.

i got a playbook 16gb for $150 flat on dec 23rd and i love it. i picked it up for browsing & email mainly. its a fantastic little device. not sure i'd pay 299 for it but 150 flat was impossible to pass up

Can't wait to hear someone justify buying the 16GB or 32GB version instead of the 64GB version, being the same price. "I don't need the extra storage" would be a great one LOL.

Now this is just stupid, obviously everyone would want to purchase the one with more storage. After those are sold out why would someone want one with and lower storage capacity when they know their paying the same price for one with more?

I'd rather have the Touchpad.
See, $99, $149 is a firesale. RIM and their marketing team clearly did not learn from HP.

I got mine for $199. The hardware is great and the software is nice except for the missing email client but it can run android apps now with the 2.0 beta. Much better then a kindle fire for the same price.

I don't get all the hate on here for anything none Android or iOS. It seems most people on here just what every alternative to die which is sad for a tech website. Bunch of fanboys.

i got mine for 150 tax included. love it. great little device! ps.. check out the adventures of Reemus. good stuff!

I'm wondering when RIM will drop Blackberry as an OS and use Android as the OS with Blackberry Services? This is just ridiculous for Blackberry. Every quarter their market share keeps getting lower and lower. It's time for RIM to move on.

From UK. I bought the 16GB for £169 on boxing day, for a few days later them to have the 32GB in stock for £199

can't you return it and just buy the 32GB? If that's what you wanted.

In Canada, it's $199 for the 16Gb, $249 for the 32Gb and $399 for the 64Gb.
I check the canadian site to find the same... Not bad...but I think I'm still going to wait and see what the iPad 3 or whatever comes out next will bring to the table
