Verizon's CEO Ivan Seidenberg confirmed yesterday that all rumours of the Verizon iPhone are not true, crushing the dreams of the iPhone being on a decent network within the United States.
The Verizon iPhone rumour has been surfacing for years now, with analyst predictions and inside confirmations that Apple is nearing the major announcement for the phone. However, all of those dreams are now washed away, as Seidenberg said in a conference that he hopes Apple will come around and allow Verizon to sell the iPhone.
Although Seidenberg didn't comment on the company's current network, it's pretty clear that there haven't been any positive talks with Apple that might possibly bring the iPhone to the network. Seidenberg did mention that Verizon is working on upgrading their network to 4G, and would be a step in the right direction for Apple to allow iPhone on the Verizon network.
"I think 4G will accelerate the process, and any other decisions Apple makes would be fine with us," Seidenberg said. "Hopefully, at some point Apple will get with the program."
Verizon plans on launching their LTE 4G service by the end of the year in 25-30 major cities and nationwide coverage by 2012.
So there you have it, all rumours, including the one about a CDMA iPhone, can be put to rest, at least for now.
